Thomas's birth at Mendon, MA, was recorded at Northbridge, MA.

Thomas & Susan also had a daughter born 5 May 1846 at Northbridge, MA. She would have been between Thomas and Leverett.

In the 1850 Federal Census, Thomas & Susan Remington, both age 27, are living at Northbridge, Worcester Co., MA. With them are: Thomas A. 5, Leverett L. 3, Edwin F. 1; and Silas Smith 50, laborer.

In the 1860 Federal Census, Thomas Remington 38 RI, a mechanic, & his wife, Susan 38 CT, are still living at Northbridge, Worcester Co., MA. Five children are in the household: Thomas A. 15, Leverett 13, Edwin F. 11, Hattie H. 8, & Charles P. 5. Also in the household is Edwin Carter 18 RI, a spinner. (Thomas was probably not b RI, though.)

In the 1870 Federal Census, Thomas is 48 MA, a machinist, and his wife Susan is 48 CT, still living at Northbridge. Their son Charles, 16 MA, a machinist's apprentice, is the only one of the siblings at home with their parents.

In the 1880 Federal Census, Thomas M. & Susan, both 58, are still at Northbridge. They are living on Church St., Whitinsville, MA. Thomas is still a machinist. Also with them is Mary C. Remington, 54, "cousin." She is probably Mary Catherine Remington, d/o John & Hannah (Southwick) Remington.

Thomas married Susan Miller 21 Feb 1844, Northbridge, MA. Susan (daughter of William Miller and Lucretia Williams) was born 1821, Norwich, CT; died 21 Feb 1897, MA; was buried , Pine Grove Cemetery, Northbridge, MA. [Group Sheet]

1. Thomas Alonzo Remington was born 26 Jan 1845, Northbridge, MA; died 1888.
2. Leverett L. Remington was born 28 May 1847, Northbridge, MA; died Aft 1 Jun 1880.
3. Edwin F. Remington was born Abt 1849, MA.
4. Hattie H. Remington was born 25 Jan 1852; died 2 Jan 1867.
5. Charles Bradford Remington was born 2 Aug 1854, Northbridge, MA; died 11 Aug 1936.

In the 1830 Federal Census, Benedict is residing at Northbridge, Worcester County, MA. He is still there in 1850, with his wife Mary and two daughters -- Margaret & Sarah, and daughter-in-law Lydia M. In the 1860 census, Benedict & Mary are ages 61 & 62, still residing at Northbridge. Their daughter Sarah L., age 24, is with them

The name on his gravestone reads Benedick Remington.

Benedict married Mary Ann Cathcart Abt Jun 1818, Mendon, MA. Mary (daughter of Jonathan Cathcart and Margaret Peggy Gaul) was born Abt Mar 1798, Nantucket, MA; died 16 Jun 1869, Northbridge, Worcester Co., MA; was buried , Blackstone Cemetery, Blackstone, MA. [Group Sheet]

Her gravestone reads, Mary A. Remington, wife of Benedick, died 16 June 1869 at age 71 y 3 m 13 d.

Boyd Scott Remington's chart has the date of marriage as 4 June 1815. However, if that is correct, Benedict would have been only 15 years old! Perhaps the 8 was misread for a 5.

Benedict was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. According to BSR, he lived in Newport and Smithfield, RI.

His place of birth, Jamestown, was obtained from the death record of his son John. His marriage record in 1780 identifies him as being of Smithfield, and son of John & Mary, of Jamestown.

In the Federal Census of 1800, "Benedic Remmington" is listed in the 2nd Parish at Mendon, Worcester Co., MA.

RI American of 21 Dec 1819, death notice: "Remington, Benedict, at Pawtuxet, in 64th yr." (Did he die at Mendon, MA, or Pawtuxet, RI? I think he probably died in Mendon, MA, and that the newspaper was in error -- needs more research to confirm.)

The Battey Family Papers give his date of death as 9 Dec 1819.

Benedict married Ruth Southwick 5 Oct 1780, Smithfield, RI. Ruth (daughter of Daniel Southwick, III and Ruth Mussey) was born 20 Mar 1755, Mendon, MA; died 10 Jun 1813, Mendon, MA. [Group Sheet]

I am making an assumption that this John Remington belongs in this family group, solely based on the names and dates of his children. (But note: this needs further research. At the present time I can not see any other family in which he would fit.)

Some of John's descendants -- as far as can be determined -- are buried in the Blackstone Cemetery, Blackstone, MA. A stone there refers to John Remington 1680 - 1745. But if this John who married Mary is the son of John b1680, why do the names of his children reflect the ancestry of Gershom & Clemence?

BSR says he moved from Jamestown in 1756.

This note may pertain to this John Remington: Newport Mercury 30 Oct 1915, historical note from 31 Jul 1769 - "John Remington carries on shoe making for Elizabeth Mumford, wido, in New Lane."

BSR has his date of death as 06 December 1809.

I think it likely that she was the daughter of Tiddeman Hull b. 1690. He had a daughter Mary born 28 July 1720. (This needs more research to confirm.) A Battey manuscript suggests that Mary may have been a daughter of William & Jane Battey.

Daniel was "of Mendon, MA" at the time of his daughter's marriage.

Daniel married Ruth Mussey Abt 2 Dec 1742, Smithfield, RI. Ruth (daughter of James Mussey and Judith Whitehouse) was born 18 Dec 1722, Capporpus, ME; died 16 Jan 1790. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

The birth record in the Battey family papers says Ruth was born 18th of 12 month 1722; that can mean either December or February, depending on the dating system used by the person who recorded (or copied) the dates. If it was copied from the original as is, it means February.

Notes:

According to the Battey Family Papers, Daniel and Ruth were married on the 2nd 12m 1742. Depending on which month they observed as the first month (Jan, new style, or Mar, old style), this could mean they were married in either Feb or Dec.
