| I am making an assumption that this marriage entry in Arnold's "Vital Record of RI" applies to this family, since it identifies George as son of Caleb. | Family F00688
| I am making an assumption that this marriage entry in the Jamestown vital records belongs to this Abigail. SMITH George, of Ebenezer and Dinah and Abigail Remington, of Capt. John, dec., and Abigail, Dec. 10, 1769. | Family F01967
| I am making an assumption that this marriage for Hannan T. Kinyon (daughter of George) & Stephen A. Remington belongs to these two individuals. I cannot find another Stephen A. Remington that would fit this time period; besides, the location of both of their families makes it likely. | Family F02932
| I am making an assumption that this marriage in Jamestown, for Ann Slocum, daughter of Samuel & Ann, puts the bride in this family group, even though I have not found a birth record for her as yet (needs more research). | Slocum, Ann (I08626)
| I am making an assumption that this marriage is for this particular Henry A. Remington, Jr. | Family F05208
| I am making an assumption that this marriage listed in Arnold's "Vital Record of RI" belongs to this family, because Casey is identified as "of George." Whether Casey is a male and Salfear is a female is not absolutely certain. They were married by H. Cooke, Justice. | Family F00691
| I am making an assumption that this marriage of William Hopkins & Mary Tibbetts, of John, belongs to this Mary, because the dates fit her age and locality. | Family F01885
| I am making an assumption that this marriage record for Pardon Sheldon, Jr., & Mercy Jenckes belongs to this particular individual. | Sheldon, Captain Pardon Jr. (I11755)
| I am making an assumption that this marriage to a Lydia, and birth of a daughter Sybil, belong to this particular George A. Briggs. | Briggs, George Ambrose (I10476)
| I am making an assumption that this marriage to Ethel, found in the 1920 and 1930 censuses, belongs to this particular Frank A. Remington, because the age is right. Also, the daughter's name Ruth is a clue that she may be named after his grandmother and aunt, both named Ruth. Ethel is quite a bit younger than Frank, so this may be a second marriage for him. In 1880, there is a Frank H. (?) Remington, 25 (c1855 RI), in Dist. 39 Providence, with a wife named Alice G., 21 (c1859 RI). This could be his first marriage. | Remington, Frank A. (I05356)
| I am making an assumption that this marriage to Mary is for this particular Henry A. Remington, Jr., and that this family group found in the 1870 Federal Census at Providence is for him. His age in the census (35) fits his date of birth. In the Rhode Island Census of 1875, Henry H. Remington is 40, Mary is 39, Anna F. is 14, Charles H. is 9, and Mary H. is 7. The same couple appears to be in the 1900 Federal Census at Providence, and the dates agree, except Henry's dob is given as 7 Aug 1833. Their daughter Mary is a school teacher, age 33. In the Federal Census of 1910, Henry & Mary Remington, ages 75 & 70, are living on Potter Avenue, Providence, RI. They have been married 52 years. Henry's occupation is given as Builder & Undertaker. A city directory says his residence and office were at 55 Ocean St., Providence, RI. The Henry Remington family Bible has his birth year as 1835 (a copy of this record is in the Mary E. Rice Collection). It says he died at 120 Potter Ave., Providence. Virginia Adair has his birth year as 1834. | Remington, Henry Adolphus (2) (I11988)
| I am making an assumption that this marriage, date of death, and location of burial are indeed for this particular Charles H. Remington. The location and year of birth fit this time and place. Baptism, Christ Church, Manlius, NY: Remington, Charles Herbert 4/18/1860 (12/24/1859) s/o Charles Rollin & Helen M. In the 1900 Federal Census, Charles & Abbie C. Remington are living at Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY. They have five children. The family is still at Watertown in 1910. Charles's parents and married sister also live in the same town. | Remington, Charles Herbert (I08799)
| I am making an assumption that this marriage, listed in Arnold's "Vital Record of Rhode Island," belongs to this particular Caleb, because the date fits him, and I have found no other Caleb Whitford on record for this time period. The couple were married by Elder Phillip Jenkins. | Family F00687
| I am making an assumption that this particular Charles is the Charles Remington, age 24 b. NY, in the 1850 Federal Census at Hillsdale, MI. He is a student of medicine. He is probably also the Charles Remington, physician, in the 1870 Federal Census at Quincy, Branch Co., MI. He is married and has three children. In the 1880 Federal Census, they are at Stevens Point, Portage Co., WI. | Remington, Dr. Charles W. (I09037)
| I am making an assumption that this particular Tiddeman Hull belongs in this family group, because Robert's will mentions a son Tiddeman. Robert's uncle, John Hull II and his wife Damaris (Cary), also had a son named Tiddeman, but he was probably born earlier. | Hull, Tiddeman (I04828)
| I am making an assumption that this Ruth Jones belongs with this particular Joseph Matteson, father of Ruth Matteson. The marriage record identifies Ruth Jones as "of Exeter, daughter of Seth, dec'd." | JONES, Ruth (I11916)
| I am making an assumption that this William T. Remington, living with his parents in the 1880 Federal Census, is the same William T. Remington in the RI Cemetery Database, because he was born the same year. However, in the 1870 census his name is written as William F. | Remington, William Tillinghast (I10348)
| I am making an assumption that this young woman, Carrie C. Remington, age 20, whose death is recorded in the RI Death Index, belongs in this family group. She is identified as a daughter of William & Chloe. Her estimated year of birth would fit the time frame of their marriage. Also, Chloe Carpenter's mother was named Caroline. Perhaps Carrie was Carrie Carpenter Remington. I do not know where her grave is. Where is Carrie in the 1860 & 1870 censuses? Could she be the Marrietta Remington, age 14, b. GA, living with Henry & Sally in 1870? The age is right, but the name very different. Perhaps she is with William in 1860, and I haven't been able to locate him in this census. | Remington, Carrie C. (I14791)
| I am making an assumption that Thomas and his wife Mary belong in this family group. I need to verify this. | Bailey, Thomas (I04246)
| I am making an informed assumption that this death record of "Elizabeth Munro, wife of Jeremiah," belongs to this particular Jeremiah's family group. Neither of them is otherwise identified. However, it does fit with the evidence. For instance, in the 1850 Federal Census, Jeremiah has a daughter Laura from a previous marriage. This is the only death record in the official vital records which could fit the time frame. Also, Laura's death record identifies her as daughter of Jeremiah W. Munroe & Elizabeth Barrington (or Parrington). The RI State Archives has the maiden name on her death record as Barrington. Portsmouth land records show that a Robert & Sarah Burrington were living there on 16 Sep 1757; perhaps Elizabeth is connected with this family. There are also references in the town records to a John and a Roger Burrington. Could Burrington be an alternate spelling of Barrington? Probably. In the various censuses, the data shows that Laura's mother was born in RI. | BARRINGTON, Elizabeth (I12425)
| I am making the assumption that the Thomas and Mary whose marriage is recorded in Scituate, belongs to this family group, since this Thomas had a brother Lippitt, whose marriage was also recorded in the same book. The notation implies that they were married in Providence, but that the marriage was recorded in Scituate several years later. The Scituate record says 20 Nov. Providence records this marriage: Thomas, of Providence, and Mary Collins, of Scituate, m. by William Burton, Justice, Nov. 23, 1740. (see Arnold's VRs for Providence - Marriages p. 157) REMINGTON Thomas, and Mary Collins, of Eliza; m. by William Burton, Justice, Nov. 20, 1740 (Scituate VRs). He may have been the Thomas Remington who later moved to Portsmouth (needs more research); see this note from Barbara Chase: "Scituate, RI Probate Records; Vol. 1; p. 409 - 28 Jul 1759 - Certificate to Thomas Remington who has 'moved with his family to Portsmouth' and acknowledged that he, his wife, and children were proper inhabitants of the town of Scituate." | Family F01513
| I am not absolutely certain that Abel's wife Abigail/Abbie was Abigail Sherman. However, I am using this marriage information based on data at the Sherman web site: http://www.soydescendants.com/Philip/d6255.htm The names and dates for the children are from Alden Beaman's "RI Vital Records, New Series," Vol. 12. | Family F04589
| I am not absolutely certain that Evelyn belongs to our grandfather, John Holland Berry. However, I have placed her here, based on two factors: 1) John H. is living with Laura A. (identified as his wife) in the 1900 census, and 2) Providence birth records show the birth of Evelyn to John H. & Laura A. Berry in 1900. There could be another couple with the exact same names, but it is a reasonable assumption that Evelyn was born to our grandfather. | Berry, Evelyn Elizabeth (I05133)
| I am not absolutely sure of Sarah's birth date. She is mentioned as a granddaughter in the will of David Greene, father of Abigail, dated 21 Jul 1759. Sarah & Penelope are described as under 18. However, Sarah born in 1741 is thought to be the daughter of Susannah, not Abigail. For this reason, it has been uncertain whether there may have been two couples named John & Abigail in Jamestown during this time period, both having daughters named Penelope & Sarah. | Remington, Sarah (I09202)
| I am not absolutely sure that Huldah belongs in this family. However, based on the will of Anthony Sweetland, son of Huldah & Aratus Sweetland, I am including this family group here. Also, Huldah Sweetland had a daughter named Roba R. Sweetland, probably named after Huldah's mother, Robie Rice Remington. (In addition, the marriage is at familysearch.org) | Remington, Huldah (I06367)
| I am not absolutely sure that Sarah's date of death is for her, and not for another Sarah, such as her daughter, for instance. (Needs more research) | Hovey, Sarah (I02860)
| I am not absolutely sure that the following will pertains to this particular John Rogers. However, I have tentatively assumed such in entering his date of death and names of family members: The will of John Rogers of Newport, dated 14 Feb 1714, proved 2 Apr 1716, mentions wife Elinor and the following children: Samuel, John, and dtr. Mary Hamble [possibly Hambley?]. I don't know if any of his children were born of the second wife. Some genealogies show a son Joseph. There was a Joseph Rogers of Newport who died in Oct 1711, and this may well be John's son (Joseph named a son John; he later settled in Middletown, CT). Joseph had a wife Elizabeth who died at Tiverton, at about 27 yrs of age. | Rogers, John (I24347)
| I am not absolutely sure that these two daughters belong to this particular Remington Kenyon, but they seem to fit the time frame of this marriage. They are identified as being daughters of Remington Kenyon. | Kenyon, Remington (I07628)
| I am not absolutely sure that these two marriages belong to the same Nicholas Brown, Jr., but the location and time frame fit. This needs more research to confirm. However, the following data should be considered: BROWN NICHOLAS 1744c - 20 JUL 1830 WG090 (source: RI Cemetery Database) The will of Nicholas Brown, of West Greenwich, yeoman, is dated 26 Dec 1826 and proved 28 Aug 1830. It mentions his wife Elizabeth; son Nicholas; and grandchildren, children of son Nicholas: Nicholas, Edvna (?), and Almida. The date of the will indicates that it belongs to the Nicholas listed in the cemetery data; this is the husband of Elizabeth. He also could have married Comfort first, although there is no proof that this is the same individual, other than the same location and time frame. | Brown, Nicholas Jr. (I24896)
| I am not absolutely sure that this child belongs in this family (being researched). | Turner, George (I01734)
| I am not absolutely sure that this date of death, or this spouse and children, belong to John Remington, son of John & Susanna. However, the family group was from Newport, which is just a short boat ride across the water from Jamestown, home of John & Susanna and their Remington forebears. Also, the names of at least three of the children (Benjamin, Abigail, Peter) reflect the names of the children and Remington forebears of John & Susanna. Lastly, the dates for both John & Sarah from the RI Cemetery database seem to coincide with the date of birth we have for John, and the marriage date of 1772. Newenglandancestors.org, Jamestown Vital Records, has his date of birth as 6 Jan 1746. | Remington, John (I04182)
| I am not certain that this data is for the husband of Polly Manchester, but for the present I am assuming it is because Joseph & Sarah (Manchester) Devol migrated to Ohio. Sarah is Polly's sister. On the other hand, Presbury who was b c 1771 could be Polly's father-in-law. This family needs more research. In the 1850 Federal Census, Presbury is age 79, living at Waterford, Washington Co., OH. He is with Theodore & Jane Devol & family. In 1860, Presbury is age 89, living at Bloom, Morgan Co., OH, with the family of John & Rose Wadley. | Devole, Presbury (I18039)
| I am not entirely sure that this transcription of a birth record is not really for Claude, and not Bland E. The dates are almost exactly one year apart. | Remington, Bland E. (I21738)
| I am not positive that Addie belongs here, but since William's wife was named Adaline (or Adela), it is likely that this infant buried with the Remingtons belongs to them. | Remington, Addie (I19550)
| I am not positive that Mary belongs in this family. However, based on family names, dates, locations, and connections, I think there's a good chance she belongs here, and that she was named after her maternal grandmother, Mary Arnold. However, this needs more research to confirm. She may be a half-sister or full sister to Stacy Waterman Remington, son of Charles & Alice Remington. See notes for Mary's husband Joseph. Mary and her husband Joseph named their oldest son Charles. Mary died at age 87y. | Remington, Mary A. (I25873)
| I am not positive that one of the daughters was named Ann. | Northup, Ann (I13963)
| I am not positive that this Elizabeth belongs in this family, and/or that she is the one who married Ferris Angevine. However, I am placing her and Ferris here because of some notes in the manuscript section of NE Hist & Gen Soc. These notes state that Dan & Hannah had a daughter Betsey (Elizabeth) who married Jackson Angevine. However, the only Elizabeth Angevine I can find in the 1850 census is married to Ferris Angevine and has a son Jackson. It seems that this may be the correct family. However, more research is needed to confirm that Ferris's wife is really Dan & Hannah's daughter. In 1860, 1870, & 1880, Elizabeth Angevine is living at Niagara, NY, with her son Jackson. | Remington, Elizabeth Betsy (I19941)
| I am not positive that this is the correct date of death for this Elizabeth Smith. | Phillips, Elizabeth (I08731)
| I am not positive that this marriage belongs to to the particular Benjamin in this family group, but the time fits, so I am attaching his spouse and daughter, pending further research. | Briggs, Benjamin (I10399)
| I am not positive, but I think he is the A. J. Remington, age 35 b MA, living at Clark, WA, in the 1870 Federal Census; and also the Andrew J. Remington, age 46 b MA, living in Clark, WA, in the 1880 Federal Census. I cannot locate him in the 1860 census, so perhaps he was on the move. The names of his two children may be clues to his family of origin. In any case, I am including this marriage and the children here, pending further research to confirm. According to Lois Remington Smith in "The Remington Family" p. D-2, Andrew's wife Ellen died at Vancouver, WA; so this seems to confirm the above information. | Remington, Andrew Jackson (I16147)
| I am not sure about James. Perhaps he was a son who died young. | Borst, James (I06579)
| I am not sure about this daughter for Jonathan & Mary. She is listed on the Boyd Scott Remington chart. According to the genealogy, she married Christopher Ralph Colvin. However, he was born 1808 and married Abigail "Nabby" (Remington) Knight -- probably she was his second wife, as suggested by the wording in his will. | Remington, Alta Mary (I08906)
| I am not sure about this marriage, as I found it on a family tree at ancestry.com (needs to be confirmed). She may have been a daughter os Stephen & Hannah Wilcox, but this is just a guess based upon her age. She had a brother and an uncle named Daniel, so naming a son Daniel may be a clue, but not proof. | Wilcox, Hannah (I27853)
| I am not sure about this posasible son who died in infancy but his name and dates were found in a Hill manuscript. | Hill, Nathaniel (I25341)
| I am not sure if a Mary belongs in this family group, because the will of grandmother Mary (Thurston) Slocum mentions Mary Carr, daughter of son-in-law Peter Greene. | Carr, Mary (I01316)
| I am not sure if Abiah's mother is Mary, but Mary's will mentions her as a daughter. | Carr, Abiah (I14951)
| I am not sure if Caroline and Elizabeth are two individuals or one wife. | Stocker, Caroline Elizabeth (I22781)
| I am not sure if Lucinda (in 1850) and Esther (in 1870) are one and the same. They both seem to have been born around the same year. Possibly the census taker mis-heard the name? Or, they may be two different wives. In 1880, Esther Remington is age 66, widowed, and living at Liverpool, Onondaga Co., NY. She is boarding with Isaac & Susan Gleason, along with another boarder named Lucy Azubah, 58. | Unknown, Lucinda Esther (I13895)
| I am not sure if these dates belong to this Horace. | Greene, Horace (I09235)
| I am not sure if these dates belong to this Oliver. | Greene, Oliver (I09236)
