701 | After Sarah (Sadie) died, her sons were brought up by their Aunt Isabelle (I called her Cousin Belle) and their grandmother Sarah (Sadie) Cheetham. The daughter was brought up by her great aunt(s) in New Bedford, MA. Gordon went on to become a dentist, and was our family dentist when I was growing up (1950s - 1960s). He retired some years after I was married. His daughter, Donna Morgan, graduated from high school in my class, Warwick Vets 1969. | Chafee, Sarah "Sadie" Frances (I00440)
702 | After the death of his wife Charlotte in 1843 (probably at Albany, NY), Joseph and the children went to Michigan, then to Ohio, then back to Mason County, MI, where they settled. (see posting of 10 March 2000 by Shirley McClain at Rootsweb's Remington message board) I can't find Joseph in either the 1870 or 1880 Federal Censuses in MI. | Turner, Joseph (I07322)
703 | After their marriage, Michall & Rebeccah purchased the homestead of Thomas Sweetman at the northwest corner of the Harvard College grounds in Cambridge, MA. This property was sold to Harvard in 1697, and the family moved to East Greenwich, RI. His will mentions his wife Rebeccah, sons Thomas & Henry (possibly others -- writing unclear), and daughter Susannah Olin, wife of John Olin. He may have been a brother of John Spencer b.c. 1640, also of East Greenwich, who had a son Michael. | SPENCER, Michall (I04287)
704 | After their marriage, Wager & Mary (Martin) Hull lived in the "Old Hull Place" on Jamestown. Their home was burned by the British soldiers in December 1775. At the same time Mary's father, William Martin, was killed. A few weeks later Wager died, and Mary went to New York City to stay with some of her husband's relatives. She later married Gershom Remington. The newspaper announcement of her marriage to Gershom says she was Mary Hull, widow. The will of Mary Gage, relict of David Gage, is registered at Dutchess Co., NY (Abstracts of Wills, Administrations and Guardianships in NY State, 1787-1835; newenglandancestors.org) In the will she mentiones her daughters Damaris w/o Henry Clapp; Phebe w/o Joseph Doughty; and Sarah Hull; refers to her four youngest children: Hannah Remington, Penelope Remington, Charles Wager Remington, & Mary Remington. Will pvd 31 Oct 1812. | Martin, Mary (I05154)

710 | Alden Beaman's "RI Genealogical Register," Vol. 1, No. 3 shows Pasco as the younger brother, being born in 1674; he gives the year of birth for Nicholas as 1670. Town historian Martha R. McPartland, in the book "The History Of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, 1677-1960, with Related Genealogy," p. 270, states that the wife of Pasco, Jr. was Mary Stafford. It is known that she married a Mr. Whitford. | Whitford, Pasco Jr. (I01284)

722 | Alfred's marriage is noted in the book "Genealogies of the Different Families Bearing the Name of Kent in the United States . . . " by L. Vernon Briggs, p. 148. However, this section is prefaced with the author's comment: "Others by the name of Kent whom I have been unable to locate, but who are connected with the above families, are as follows." In the 1880 Federal Census, both Hannah R. Kent and Russel D. Kent have noted that their father was born in Connecticut. | Kent, Alfred (I07538)

727 | Alice Whitford, who married Nathan Dawley and named two sons David, may be a daughter of David & Mercy. Some genealogies show her as a daughter of David's brother Joseph, but that is uncertain. Nathan & Alice Dawley signed Exeter land deeds on 22 Nov 1755, 18 Aug 1758, and 20 Feb 1759. David & Marcy had several children, according to Whitford descendant Matthew Schmidt. Unfortunately, their names were burned off the records in the fires at the North Kingstown Town Hall. Other records have shown that they had at least three sons: Joshua, David, & John, probably all born in the 1720s and 1730s. | Whitford, David (I01290)

731 | Alice's maiden name came from a bio on Orange Remington from Cattaraugus County. However, it may be Hodges, because in the Federal Census of 1900, Mary Hodges is living with them, identified as mother. However, Hodges may be Mary's name from a second marriage. | Dean, Alice L. (I22750)
732 | Alice's middle initial is A is census records. I found "Arminy" on a family tree at Rootsweb's Worldconnect. In the Federal Census of 1880, an Alice and her brother Edgar are working at a hotel in Chicago, but it must be another Edgar/Alice. | Remington, Alice Arminy (I22736)
733 | Alice's name is unclear in the census, but it looks as if it begins with A, and may be Alice or Adela. Her parents were born in IN & PA. | Rozelle, Addie Belle (I19014)

Notes from Sam Wallis: "George moved to the Norwich [CT] settlement in 1804 from Providence, Rhode Island with his wife Mary Rathbone and their two oldest children, Anna and George. They owned a 100-acre farm at a location known as Governor Corner on the town's south line, east of the Chenango River." | Knapp, George (I23678)
736 | All of James's children except Daniel were named in the will of Isbel Berton, dated 26 Jan 1721/22 at Warwick, RI. James resided at Nausauket, in Warwick, RI, where he built a house in 1687 (source: "New England Families, Genealogical and Memorial" by William Richard Cutter; Google Books). This is the area where I grew up; my grammar school was Nausauket School. In the Warwick records James is referred to as Ensign, Lieutenant, and Captain. | Greene, Capt. James Jr. (I03812)
737 | All of the children and grandchildren are named in his will, but no wife is mentioned. Thomas and his family lived in the Bald Hill section of Warwick, RI. | Rice, Captain, Esquire Thomas (I02842)
738 | All ten of these children are mentioned in the 1688 will of their aunt, Alice (Paine) Strange. However, the dates of birth of Mary and some of the children have been estimated, and may not be accurate as shown here. One database emailed to me has an additional son named Sylvanus, born in 1660, died 10 May 1716. The surname is sometimes written as Payne. | PAINE, Mary (I01493)
739 | Allen & Diadama were on the membership list of the First General Baptist Church of Richmond, RI, on 17 Sept 1810. (source: James N. Arnold's "Vital Records of RI," Church Records, p. 411) However, this is confusing because Allen was already widowed by 1809, and probably married his second wife Margaret about this time. Perhaps the church leaders had not heard that Diadama had died by then, and retained the names on the list of members. Allen, probably born at Portsmouth, RI, appears to have married or at least had children in MA. However, Allen and his first wife may have been back in RI at some point and had some association with the Baptist Church in Richmond. (see above). Their children probably married in MA; at least some of them moved westward. "A Scattered People: An American Family Moves West" by Gerald W. McFarland, p. 81 (Google Books) says that Allen Remington and his father had briefly lived at Exeter, RI; Allen came to Hancock, MA, from RI after the Revolution. Boyd Scott Remington includes a second son named William born in 1820, but I don't think it is accurate, as there was already another son named William. Allen's estate documents mention one son named William. Allen died intestate, and the numerous legal documents pertaining to the settlement of his estate in Berkshire Co., MA, mention the names of his children and stepchildren, as well as his second wife Margaret, who died not long after Allen did. | Remington, Allen I (I09208)

747 | Allen's father was Sylvester Johnson, who was engaged to Mercy. However, he and Mercy quarreled and they never married. Allen went to PA with his mother, uncle, and grandparents around 1830. (source: RI Genealogical Register, Vol 8 No 1, page 11, in an article entitled "Descendants of Edward Kettle.") In the 1850 Federal Census, Allen and Eunice, ages 26 RI & 21 NY, are living at Abington, Luzerne Co., PA. They have a son Stephen, age 2 months. Also in the same town are Allen's grandparents, Silas & Margaret, as well as his mother Mercy and uncle Green. The family is listed next to Henry Gardner and family (another RI individual). | Kettelle, Allen (I19620)
748 | Allen's second wife was Alma (Unknown). Allen and his brother Thomas settled at Ellisburgh, Jefferson Co., NY. In both the 1860 and the 1870 Federal Census, Allen & Susan are living at Ellisburgh with their children Edmund & Mary. However, in 1860 their son is listed as Rufus (same estimated year of birth). In the Federal Census of 1880, Allen & Susan are living at Ellisburgh, NY. With them are son Earl, and son Rufus and family. | Remington, Allen (I09639)
