Notes - August may have been the first in the family to come to America. He was here for a period of three years when he was a young man. It was he who encouraged Nils Peter Nicolaisen to come over. However, he couldn't speak English very well, and had some difficulties with friends. He prayed about the situation. Then he had a dream in which he saw a girl by a farm, but he was warned not to contact the girl. When he was looking for work on a farm, he saw a scene that looked like his dream, so he avoided that farm. Eventually he did get to work on a farm here for a while, and learned to speak English a little better. Sometimes he wrote to Trine and her family. When he returned to Denmark, he courted Martinus's sister for a while; then he went to work on a farm where there was a mother and daughter. The daughter was Hansine, whom he fell in love with and married.
The brothers Rasmus, August, and Soren frequently went to visit Trine's grandmother on Mols. The topic of conversation often turned to politics, which made the grandma very much afraid!
I have roughly estimated the birth years of most of August's children.
