- Boyd Scott Remington's chart places a Samuel in the family group of Joshua & Eunice Remington, but I question whether he belongs there. According to the "Oliver M. Remington Bible Records" (National DAR Records; referenced in "A Remington Family History" by Lois Remington Smith, p. C-2), Uriah & Sally Remington had a son named Samuel, so it seems more likely that these dates belong to that family. Consequently, I am assigning these dates to this particular Samuel. (My research at the Delaware Co., NY, web site and in census data seems to confirm this.)
The 1810 Federal Census at Delaware Co., NY, lists him as Samuel Ramington.
In the 1820 Federal Census at Meredith, Delaware Co., NY, Samuel Remington's household consists of: 3 males<10, 1 male 26 - 45 (Samuel), 2 females<10, 2 females 10-16, and 1 female 26-45 (wife). This data suggests that at that time they had two daughters (names?) born c 1805-1810, and two more daughters (probably Nancy & Lucinda) and three sons born c 1810-1820 (possibly Clark, Seba, & Wiliam).
In the 1830 census, Samuel is still at Meredith. His household consists of: 1 male<5, 1 male 5<10, 2 males 15<20, 1 male 20<30, 1 male 40<50, 1 female<5, 1 female 5<10, 1 female 10<15, 1 female 20<30, 1 female 40<50, and 1 female 60<70. This suggests that the family had a son and a daughter born c 1825-1830, a son and a daughter born c 1820-1825, one daughter born c 1815-1820, two sons born c 1810-1815, one son and one daughter born c 1800-1810, in addition to Samuel and his wife (40-50), and one older woman (60-70) who may have been a mother or mother-in-law. It seems likely that the household of 1830 included Samuel's married son Seba and his wife and their young children.
In the 1840 census, Samuel and Seba Remington are both listed as heads of households, probably living next to each other. Samuel's household consists of: 2 males 15-20 (Nelson and Martin?), 1 male 20-30 (possibly George, about 20 - 25), 1 male 30-40 (possibly William, about 27), 1 male 60-70 (Samuel), 1 female 10-15 (probably Delia), 1 female 15-20 (?), 2 females 20-30 (Lucinda and ?), and 1 female 50-60 (his wife).
In the 1850 Federal Census, Samuel Remington (surname illegible), age 79 VT, is living at Meredith, Delaware Co., NY. In the household with him are Marcus 66 CT (female), and Delia 21 NY. Also, in the same dwelling but different family group are Linus & Nancy Bronson, ages 36? & 33?. Nancy is probably Samuel's daughter. They are all living next to William & Caroline Remington and family, and on the other side of William are Seba & Delia (should be Julia?) Remington and family.
"Records of the Supervisors of the County of Delaware October 5th, 1813" transcribed by Linda Ogborn, includes notations of payments made to the town account by Daniel Remington and Samuel Remington. (source: Delaware Co., NY, historical web site)
"Sam Remington" had a mill -- probably a flour mill -- in Delaware County in the 1820s. The 1850 census shows his occupation as miller.
