- Censuses give his birthplace as Herkimer County, NY. In the 1880 census he gives his parents' birthplace as RI.

Willet's first wife was Rachel Hall, daughter of Benjamin Hall of Herkimer county. They had children Mary M. and David Benjamin.
He married 2nd to Maria Maxon, widow of Shibney Hall and had additional children: Joseph Maxon Hall, Sarah Ann Hall and Charles Carroll Hall.
Shibney and Rachel had children before his death: Ishmael, Francis and Malvina.
Sarah H G Lucas, sister, will 1872 Oswego lists brothers Samuel P Hall, Ira Hall, Hiel Hall and John Sheldon and one sister, Amanda M. Maxon, later Dickinson. (actually, previously Dickinson).
