    Notes:

    Matthew was the first child born of English parents in the town after the settlement of Portsmouth, RI.

    For many years, his house was used as the meeting place for Friends in Portsmouth, from 1677 or earlier, probably until a meeting house was built in 1706.

    Matthew married Sarah Clayton 4 Mar 1673/74. Sarah died 15 Apr 1735. [Group Sheet]
