Joseph & Elizabeth were married at St. John's Church, Mansfield

Elizabeth's parents, Gilbert & Ann Slack, were married at St.Peter's, Mansfield
The parish church of St. Peter & St. Paul, at the bottom of Church Street, is the oldest and most important church in the town. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. The church was later rebuilt in the Norman style, although a fragment of the earlier church building is incorporated into the east side of the tower. The oldest of the church bells is dated 1603. St. Peter's was the only parish church in Mansfield up until 1856, when St. John's Church was built.
