I am making an assumption that Andrew, listed as age 20 on the 1860 Tiverton Census, is Charles Andrew.

Raised on his family's farm in Tiverton, RI, Charles A. Hambly was the seventh of nine children born to Charles Hambly and his wife Mary Slocum. From the age of 16 Charles was a member of the Central Baptist Church of Tiverton, where he went on to teach Sunday School for 40 years, and was also a deacon and Sunday School superintendant for a number of years. After his own early education, he taught school in Westport, MA, and Tiverton, RI. Later he raised poultry and went into the meat business, especially pork and lamb. He owned a 125-acre farm in northern Tiverton, called Spring Hill Farm, where his residence overlooked Narragansett Bay and the towns of Portsmouth, Bristol, and Little Compton.

There is a biographical sketch of Charles in a book titled "Representative Men and Old Families of Rhode Island," published in 1908 by J. H Beers & Co., Chicago, p. 1188. There are also nice pictures of Charles and his wife Mary.

Charles married Mary Josephine Coit 2 Mar 1862, Fall River, MA. Mary (daughter of Gardner L. Coit and Josephine Bonaparte Evans) was born 23 Feb 1842, Fall River, MA; died 9 Nov 1905; was buried , Historical Cemetery 41, Tiverton, RI. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

Mary is said to be a 9th-generation direct descendant of John Coit, who came from Wales to America between 1630 and 1638, and appears among settlers of Salem, MA, in 1638.

The RI Cemetery Database gives her year of death as 1906; a transcription of the stone in "Genealogies of RI Families" says 1905.

Charles worked on the family farm, and for a while was a school teacher in Tiverton. He later started an agricultural business on Fish Rd., and after his father died Charles lived at the family homestead on Main Rd. in North Tiverton.

Charles was buried in the family plot on the farm.

Charles married Mary Slocum Abt 1826. Mary (daughter of Benjamin Slocum) was born Abt 1806; died 29 Mar 1897, Tiverton, RI; was buried , Historical Cemetery 41, Tiverton, RI. [Group Sheet]

This family information was gleaned from cross-referencing three sources: Arnold's Vital Records, Beaman's Vital Records, and the RI Cemetery Database. Benjamin's will names all the children and some of the grandchildren (TiP 10:114-119). There may also be another daughter, Anna, born 17 June 1789; however, this may just be another name for Nancy, as Nancy was frequently used as a nickname for Ann or Anna. If there was another daughter named Anna, then she died before the will was written, 1827-1831. The son Benjamin, b. 1783, had a daughter named Mary A. (our ancestor); her son, Benjamin F. Remington, had a daughter named Mary Anna.

Benjamin Hambly, Jr. settled in the northern part of Tiverton, RI, where he cleared land, built a house, and farmed. There he grew flax and raised sheep. He was a weaver by trade. All the clothes -- including shoes -- worn by him and the family were made on the farm, by the family.

Thirteen children were born to Benjamin & Elizabeth, including one set of twins (Gardner & Amy). Benjamin died on his farm at the age of 75.

According to the private journal of Elder Peleg Burroughs of Tiverton, a Minister of the Gospel, "on the 8th day of September A. D. 1780 -- Preached at B. Hambly's upon Psalm 107:31 (O that men would praise xc) married John Manchester to M.F. and stayed all night at Bro. Davenports." (from the Revolutionary War Pension file of John Manchester who married Mary Fish)

Benjamin married Elizabeth FISH 6 May 1777, Tiverton, RI. Elizabeth (daughter of William FISH, Jr. and Priscilla SHEARMAN) was born Between 1755 and 1758; died 18 Oct 1834; was buried Oct 1834, Historical Cemetery 41, Benj Hambly Lot, Souza Rd., Tiverton, RI. [Group Sheet]
