    In the 1880 Federal Census, Holden is age 47 and Elizabeth is age 42. They are living at New Bedford, Bristol Co., MA. In the household is their son Walter H., 15, and Holden's mother, Susan, age 76.

    In the 1830 Federal Census "Aretus" is shown as residing at Tyringham, Berkshire County, MA.

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Aretus S. & Susan are living at Abingdon, Luzerne Co., PA, with six of their children: Susan 20, Holden 18, John 15, Aretus 13, Martha 9, and Emerald 3. All of the family members are listed as born in RI, except Susan, the older daughter.

    According to the 1850 census data, all of these family members were born in RI. Perhaps the census taker assumed too much?

    In the 1870 US Census, Aratus is living in Dartmouth, MA. Nearby in New Bedford, MA, are four of his sons, including William, and William's son, Jonathan Stedman Remington.

    In the 1830 Federal Census, they are in Tyringham, Berkshire County, MA.
