Elizabeth Sheffield

In the will of her sister, Hannah Sheffield, proved 8 Oct 1821 at North Kingstown, RI, Elizabeth is mentioned as the wife of Tiddeman Remington of Jamestown. Also mentioned is another sister Sarah, wife of Josiah Shove of Mendon, MA, as well as a deceased brother (name not readable) and three nieces, Mary, Elizabeth, & Hannah. There is no mention of a husband or children, so the implication is that Hannah is single.

The DAR Patriot Index, Centennial Edition, Part III, P-Z, p. 2435, identifies the wife of Tiddeman H. Remington as Elizabeth Sheffield.

Elsewhere it has been suggested that she was Elizabeth Anthony, probably because of Ann/Nancy's middle name.

Elizabeth married Tiddeman H. Remington Abt 1786. Tiddeman (son of John Remington and Mary Unknown) was born 9 Feb 1760, Jamestown, Newport Co., RI; died Between 1842 and 16 Feb 1843, Mendon, MA. [Group Sheet]

2. Mary H. Remington was born 6 Apr 1789, Jamestown, RI; died 9 Oct 1835.
3. Hannah S. Remington was born 14 Jan 1792, Jamestown, RI; died 27 Dec 1875, Blackstone, MA.
4. Eunice Remington was born 30 May 1794, Jamestown, RI.
5. Clemence C. Remington was born 16 Oct 1797, Jamestown, RI; died 3 Jun 1838, Savannah, GA; was buried 4 Jun 1838, Colonial Park Cemetery, Savannah, GA.
6. Gershom Remington was born 16 Feb 1800, Jamestown, RI; died 28 Jul 1819, Charleston, SC.
7. Henry Mumford Remington was born 3 Jul 1802, Jamestown, RI; died Abt Mar 1825, Mendon, MA.
