In the 1920 Federal Census, John W. Remington is age 30 and a widower, living on Main Street in Murdo City, Jones Co., SD. He is a painter.

In 1930 the family, including three children, are living at Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY.

John married Margaret McIntyre Abt 1915. Margaret was born 15 Feb 1891; died 4 Jul 1916. [Group Sheet]

1. John "Jack" Frederick Remington was born 23 Mar 1916, MI; died Aft 1980.

John married Nellie Tooth Abt 1924. Nellie was born 15 Mar 1900, England; died Mar 1970, Delmar, Albany Co., NY. [Group Sheet]

1. Virginia Mae Remington was born 23 Nov 1925, Chicago, Cook Co., IL; died 19 Feb 2017, NY; was buried , Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
2. James Asa Remington was born 4 Feb 1930.

Notes:

In the 1900 Federal Census, the family is living at Kenton, Hardin Co., OH.

In the 1920 Federal Census, T. J. Remington, age 61, and Celesta Remington, age 58, are living at Winslow, Washington Co., AR. Their 3-year-old grandson, John (?) F. Remington, born in MI, is living with them.

In 1930, Thomas J. Remington is age 71, widowed, and living with his widowed sister Margaret A. Thompson, age 80, in Danville, Knox Co., OH.

Thomas is the grandfather of Virginia Mae (Remington) Rich, who sent me the Remington family portrait.

Thomas married Celesta Jackson May 1883. Celesta (daughter of William Jackson) was born 17 Nov 1861, OH; died 25 Oct 1929; was buried , Workman Cemetery, Rt. 62, Danville, Knox Co., OH. [Group Sheet]

In the 1870 Federal Census, the family is living at Knox, Holmes Co., Ohio. William is 49 and Mary is 47; children in the household are: Zachariah T. 21, Joseph C. 16, Sally M. 13, Thomas J. 11, Mary J. 9, & Lydia 5.

In 1880 the family is at Richland, Holmes Co., Ohio. William is 59 and Mary is 57; children in the household are: Sarah 23, Zacariah T. 32, Thomas J. 21, Lydia M. 20, & Mary J. 15. The two youngest daughters are reversed in age in comparison to the previous census.

William married Mary McKenzie 5 Dec 1844, Knox Co., OH. Mary was born 14 Oct 1823, Maryland; died 6 Oct 1908; was buried , Union Grove Cemetery, Rt. 26, Richland Twp., Holmes Co., OH. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

Oliver M. Remington married Sarah and moved from Tiverton, RI, to Ohio about 1813/14, among the first settlers to live in New Castle, Coshocton County, OH. He was a school teacher, and later moved to Holmes County, c.1820/21. His brother Peter also moved to Ohio.

In the 1850 Federal Census, the family is at Richland, Holmes, OH. Oliver is 62, Sarah is 57; sons John, Thomas, & Lyman are in the household.

"One of the earliest schools in the township, in all probability the first, was held in the cabin that had been occupied by Isaac Butler, in the western part of the township. The children of the Butlers, Darlings and others attended here. In 1814 or 1815, it was taught by Oliver Remington, from Rhode Island, a well educated, intelligent man.
