Emory Brace Remington

I am making an assumption that Emory B. Remington belongs in this family group, because his date of birth fits, and his middle initial may indicate his mother's maiden name, and he is living in the same town as an adult.

In the 1870 Federal Census, Emory B. & Charlotte Remington are living at Canandaigua, Ontario Co., NY, with their son Mortimer.

Emory married Charlotte Matilda Mortimer 27 Apr 1865, Christ Church, Brooklyn, NY. Charlotte (daughter of Benjamin Mortimer) was born Abt 1843, NY; died Aft 1 Jun 1880. [Group Sheet]

2. Charlotte M. Remington was born Abt 1870; died 22 Apr 1880, Canandaigua, NY.
3. Emory B. Remington was born Jul 1874, NY; died Aft 15 Apr 1910.

Notes:

In the 1870 Federal Census, Samuel & Jane are living at Canandaigua, Ontario Co., NY with their three children. In 1880 they are at Manchester, Ontario Co., NY. With them is son Frederick, 21, and daughter Jenny Harris and her husband Albert, and sister-in-law Matilda Henry, 50.

Samuel married Jane Brace Abt 1842. Jane was born Abt 1821, NY; died Aft 1 Jun 1880. [Group Sheet]

Note at Rootsweb from descendant Margaret Fish: "I descend from Col. Thaddeus Remington of C'd'g'a, through son Thad Jr., and his daughter Mary. And finally, after 9 years, found a book which verifies he was married in Granby, Conn. (near Suffield) to Betsy Root (some NY books said Nelson) on Jan. 28, 1793. He died 19 Sept. 1838 and Betsy died 24 Dec. 1855."

"Overlooking Centerfield was the home of Colonel Thaddeus Remington, the maternal grandparent, who had given his own name to the hill upon which he had built his log-house in 1798. Colonel Remington was the eldest of three brothers who came from Vermont, where the traditions of the family run back until they are lost to record. By his solicitations two younger brothers, who had come from Vermont to Connecticut, were induced to come west to make a settlement, and one of them selected Henrietta and the other Mumford, in Monroe county." Thaddeus married Betsy Root or Nelson 28 Jan 1793, Granby, CT. Betsy was born Abt 1770, CT; died 24 Dec 1855, Centerfield, Ontario Co., NY. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

In the 1850 Federal Census, Betsey Remington is age 77, born in CT, and is living at Canandaigua, Ontario, NY, with John & Sophia Fosket/Foskett. Possibly Sophia is her daughter (needs more research).

The death notice said she died at age 81.

Thomas and Mary, his wife, were first cousins.

Thomas married Mary Remington 19 Feb 1755, Suffield, Hartford, CT. Mary (daughter of Stephen Remington, I and Sarah Barlow) was born 25 Jan 1736/37, Suffield, Hartford, CT. [Group Sheet]
