Henry is mentioned in the will of his grandfather, David Remington.

In the 1850 Federal Census, Henry is age 11, living with his father James and stepmother (also aunt) Jane, along with three siblings -- Sarah, Anna, & James -- and his grandfather David Remington (Jr.), aged 78. They are in Greenwich, Washington Co., NY.

In the 1870 Federal Census, Henry C. Newbury and his wife Emma are still in Greenwich, NY. They have four children: Edith, Edward, Mary, & Amy. There is no indication as to whether Emma is James's first or second wife. Since there is a gap in the children's ages, one might wonder if there was an earlier wife. In 1870, this family is living nearby Noah & Catherine Remington. Henry & Noah are both great-grandsons of David Remington, Sr.

In the 1850 Federal Census, James R. Newbury is age 44, living at Greenwich, Washington Co., NY. In the household are his (second) wife, Jane, age 30, and children Henry, 16; Sarah H. 11; Anne E., 8; and James M., 4 mos.; also David Remington, 78. All were born in NY except for David, who was born in RI.

In the 1860 Federal Census, James is living at Greenwich, Washington Co., NY, and appears to be widowed. In the household are his two (assumed) daughters (Anna & Jane), and his father-in-law, David Remington, age 88.

From the data, it appears that James married two sisters, Amy & Jane Remington. The son Henry must have been born of Amy, his first wife. This is supported by later census data that show Henry's family to have a daughter Amy, probably named after his mother.

James married Amy Remington Abt 1833. Amy (daughter of David Remington, Jr. and Hannah Rogers) was born Between 1810 and 1811; died Between 1842 and 1846. [Group Sheet]
