Harold J. Wolfendale Remington

Notes:

In the 1880 Federal Census his name appears as Harrold R. Wolfendole, and his mother as N. P. Wolfendole, age 23, married. Both are living with her parents, Jeremiah & Hannah Remington. His father may have left or died while he was very young and so he later took his mother's maiden name, Remington. Or, he may have been raised by his grandparents (needs more research).

In the 1930 Federal Census, Harold's family is living at 34 County Rd. in Barrington, RI.

Cause of death: cerebral thrombosis.

Harold married Matilda Pearl Ridgeway Between 1916 and 1917. Matilda (daughter of Thomas Ridgeway and Margaret Lewis) was born 2 Jan 1888, Providence, RI; died 19 Mar 1978, Newport, RI; was buried , Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, RI. [Group Sheet]

2. Ruth M. Remington was born Abt 1921, Providence, RI; died 18 Apr 2004, Greenville, RI.
3. John S. Remington, Sr. was born 23 Feb 1924, Providence, RI; died 6 May 2002, Rehoboth, MA; was buried , Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, RI.

James married Nellie P. Remington 9 Mar 1876, RI. Nellie (daughter of Jeremiah Short Remington and Hannah Maria Palmer) was born 6 May 1857, Providence, RI; died 3 Apr 1942; was buried , Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, RI. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

Nellie is in the 1880 Federal Census as N. R. Wolfendale with her infant son Harold, living in Providence, RI, with her parents.

Nellie P. Remington married Lewis N. Fidler, on 8 Feb 1887. As her maiden name was used for this second marriage, I am not sure whether she was divorced, or whether her first husband died.

The RI Cemetery Database has her date of birth as 22 April 1857. However, the Providence City Records have it recorded as 6 May 1857.

Notes:

In the 1870 Federal Census, Jeremiah S. & Hannah are living in Ward 6, Providence, RI. Daughter Nellie P., age 13, is with them. In the 1880 Federal Census, Jeremiah & Hannah are still in Providence, RI. They are boarding at the home of Margaret Arnold on High St. Their daughter N. R. Wolfendale is with them, and their 1-year-old grandson, Harrold.

The RI Cemetery Database gives Jeremiah's date of birth as 6 Feb 1827, and notes the cause of death as "malignant growth of throat."

Jeremiah married Hannah Maria Palmer 20 Sep 1855, Providence, RI. Hannah (daughter of Isaac Palmer and Nancy Allen) was born 20 Jan 1827, Westport, MA; died 25 Nov 1916, Providence, RI; was buried , Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, RI. [Group Sheet]

BSR's Remington Ancestry Chart has Enoch's date of birth as 1 January 1795. Perhaps that was a baptism? Unfortunately, neither BSR or M. Benns gives any sources notes.

The RI Cemetery Database says 1792. Cause of death is noted as sunstroke.

Enoch married Phebe Short 13 Nov 1814, Barrington, RI. Phebe (daughter of John Short and Betsey Scott) was born 9 Apr 1797, Barrington, RI; died 31 Jul 1870, Providence, RI; was buried , Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, RI. [Group Sheet]

BSR gives her date of birth as 17 April 1797. RI Cemetery Database says she died of dropsy.
