    In the 1900 Federal Census, the family is still at New Bedford. Lucy, Maria's mother, is widowed, and still in the household with Thomas, Maria, and Grace.

    Charles married Maria J. Peirce 31 Oct 1871. Maria (daughter of Thomas R. Peirce and Lucy B. Fuller) was born Abt 30 Oct 1851, MA; died 3 Oct 1931; was buried , Rural Cemetery, New Bedford, MA. [Group Sheet]

    She was probably named after Mary Jane Pierce, half-sister of her father. The first Mary Jane died in July of 1851 at age 5.

    Notes:

    His middle name was probably Remington. He may have married his stepsister or other relative of his stepmother, Maria Fuller. His family, including wife, daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, are at New Bedford in the 1880 Federal Census.

    Thomas married Lucy B. Fuller 1 Jan 1851. Lucy was born 12 Feb 1832, MA; died 17 May 1903; was buried , Rural Cemetery, New Bedford, MA. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    David C. Pierce is age 57 in the 1850 Federal Census at New Bedford, living with his second (or third?) wife Mary (Maria) age 52, Stephen age 29 (a ship carpenter), David B. age 20 (a house carpenter), and Lydia A. age 18. I don't know if Stephen was a son born to Hope before their marriage, or born to David and an earlier wife. That is certainly possible.

    Four members of a Houghton family are also living in the household: John R. 25, Ann S. 33, Wm. H. 4, and Anna B. 2.
