    Notes:

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Charles & Jane are living at Geneva, Kane Co., IL; they have 6 children. In 1860 they are at Winfield, Dupage Co., IL, with 6 children, but one of their sons has apparently died. In 1870 they are still there, with an additional young son.

    In 1880 Charles is living in Turner, Dupage Co., IL, and has a wife named Sarah, so apparently Jane has died. Son Frank, 18, is in the household.

    Charles married Jane Remington Abt 1838. Jane (daughter of Seneca Remington, Sr. and Mary "Polly" Sargeant) was born 14 Apr 1820, MA; died Bef 1 Jun 1880. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    I have made an assumption that the Jane Remington who married Charles Watson is the Jane Remington in this family group. There are three reasons that support this assumption: her age in subsequent censuses agrees with her date of birth; she and Charles are living in Illinois, as are her parents; and she has a son named Philetus, which is also the name of one of her brothers.

    Notes:

    The 1800 Federal Census lists Josiah & Sinecer Rimmington at Cambridge, Washington Co., NY.

    The 1810 Federal Census for Cambridge, Washington Co., NY, has three Remington families or heads of families: Jabez, Josiah, & Severa.

    In the 1830 Federal Census, both Seneca and Seneca, Jr., are residing at Hinsdale, Berkshire County, MA. In 1850 Seneca & Mary are living at Compton, Kane Co., IL, with son (I assume) Philetus and his family. Also in the household are Huldah and Mary Remington, 45 and 47. These may be adult daughters of Seneca, and sisters of Philetus.

    The family had ties to PA, because the two youngest daughters seem to have lived in PA for at least part of their marriages.

    Seneca married Mary "Polly" Sargeant 26 Nov 1794, West Springfield, MA. Mary was born Abt 1772, MA; died Aft 1 Jun 1850. [Group Sheet]
