    In the 1880 federal census, Alfa & Anna Remington, both 25, are living at Lansingburgh, Rensselaer Co., NY. In 1910 the family is at Troy, which is the same general location as Lansingburgh.

    His name is shown as Alfred in 1910.

    Alpha married Anna Unknown Abt 1877. Anna was born Apr 1856, NY; died Aft Jan 1920. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    According to the 1900 census data, she has had 9 children, of whom 5 are still living. Both of Anna's parents were born in NY.

    In 1920, Anna Remington, widow age 63, is living at Troy, NY. In the household are two sons, Wilton & Charles, and one daughter-in-law, Grace.

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Alpha & Julia Remington, ages 26 & 28, are living at Albany, Albany Co., NY. With them is son Charles, 2, and Mary Remington, 54 (probably Alpha's mother, although I am not sure of her age).

    In 1860 Julia A. Remington, age 37, is living at Providence, RI. With her is daughter Mary A. Remington, age 6, b. NY. Alpha (aka Alfred) age 36 RI is also in Providence living separately with their three sons -- Charles E. 12 NY, Thomas P. 9 NY, and Alpha J. Jr. 5 NY; also with them is Maria Armington 40 NY seamstress.

    Alpha married Julia A. Winslow 6 Jan 1845, Johnston, RI. Julia (daughter of Job Winslow and Sophia Unknown) was born Abt 1825, RI; died 29 Sep 1860, Providence, RI. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    In 1860 Julia A. Remington, age 37, is living at Providence, RI. With her is daughter Mary A. Remington, age 6, b. NY. I don't know if Alpha has died or if he is back in NY. Apparently their sons are elsewhere. Julia died not long after this census.

    Peter B. Remington and his brother Peleg were mill operators in Scituate, RI from about 1814/15. The mill manufactured cotton yarn.

    I have made an assumption that his middle intial B stands for Burlingame, and that he was named after his maternal grandfather.

    Peter married Mary Unknown Abt 1811. Mary was born Abt 1795; died Aft 1 Jun 1850. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    Possibly her maiden name was Jerauld, as a daughter was named Mary Jerauld Remington.

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Mary Remington is living with her son Alpha J. Remington and his wife and son at Albany, NY. Mary's age is given as 54, but she may have been older than that.

    She may also be the Mary Remington, age 67, born RI, boarding at Rochester, NY, in 1860.
