    Notes:

    In the 1850 Federal Census, James & Mary Hambly are living at Providence, RI, with their two young daughters. James is a tailor. I have made an assumption that James wife, Mary, is the "Mary Hambly, wife of James Hambly" who is mentioned in the will of Robert Fish as his daughter.

    James married Mary Fish Abt 1843. Mary (daughter of Robert Fish and Rachel B. Manchester) was born Abt 1826, RI. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    Mary is mentioned in her father's will as "Mary Hambly, wife of James Hambly." I have made an assumption that this family in Providence in the 1850 Federal Census is this couple.

    Notes:

    Robert's will mentions his wife Rachel, son Joseph Fish, and daughter Mary, wife of James Hambly; also George Washington Borden "who now lives with me."

    Robert married Rachel B. Manchester 4 Feb 1825. Rachel (daughter of John Manchester and Mary Brayton) was born Nov 1789, Tiverton, RI; died 21 Apr 1878. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Rachel Fish is living at Tiverton, RI. Her age is given as 57. In the household is Joseph Fish, 21, a miner; and George Borden, age 12, mentioned in the 1848 will of Rachel's husband as "George Washington Borden who now lives with me." They are living next to John & Judith Manchester and family; probably John is Rachel's brother. On the other side of Rachel is Peace (Bennett) Hambly and family (she is aunt our ancestor Mary Ann Hambly who married Ben Remington).

    Rachel B. Fish, wife of Robert, is mentioned as a sister in the will of Mary Ann Manchester.

  1. 14.  John Manchester was born 28 Mar 1761, Tiverton, RI (son of Peleg Manchester and Margaret Coggeshall); died 28 Oct 1833.

    Notes:

    John Manchester was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and a Pensioner (Pension file #W20233).

    He testified on behalf of Thomas Remington's military service at the latter's pension hearing in 1832. Here is part of the transcript: "I myself enlisted in a Company of Artillery in the Rhode Island State service Commanded by Ebinezer Adams, then stationed at said Tiverton, some time in June in the year one thousand Seven-hundred and Seventy eight, and the aforesaid Thomas Remington at that time belonged to the same company and served in it to the time of my discharge, which was in the month of March following. I had a brother named Benjamin who enlisted in said Company in the month of March preceding the June in which I enlisted, and recollect that said Thomas Remington enlisted in said Company at the time my said Brother did."

    John married Mary Brayton 24 Apr 1785, Tiverton, Newport Co., RI. Mary (daughter of David Brayton and Deborah Borden) was born 28 Dec 1757, Newport, RI; died Aft 5 Nov 1838. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    Mary (Brayton) Manchester's sworn statement of 5 Nov 1838 is included in her husband's Revolutionary War Pension File. It gives her husband's dates of birth and death, her date and location of birth, her maiden name, and their date of marriage.
