  1. 1.  Christopher Almy, Jr. was born Between 1662 and 1670 (son of Christopher ALMY and Elizabeth CORNELL).

  1. 2.  Christopher ALMY was born 1632, Kilworth, Leicester, England (son of William ALMY and Audrey BARLOWE); died 30 Jan 1712/13, Portsmouth, RI.

    Notes:

    In 1658, Christopher was made a freeman of Portsmouth. In 1667 he was one of many who finalized the purchase of lands in Monmouth, NJ. He lived in Monmouth for awhile, but returned to RI to live by or before 1678.

    On 5 Mar 1680, Christopher and seven others bought Pocasset (Tiverton) lands from the Governor. By this time Christopher had become a political leader in RI. He was highly esteemed by his townsmen and on 27 Feb 1690 he was elected Governor of RI, but he refused to serve for reasons satisfactory to the Assembly. However, in that year he did serve as assistant to the Governor. During this year he was also deputy to the General Assembly. In 1692 he was made captain of the militia. In 1693 he was appointed agent to England, and on 24 Aug 1693 he represented RI in a petition to Queen Mary. In October 1696, he was reimbursed for his expenses.

  1. 4.  William ALMY was born Abt 1600, Kilworth, Leicestershire, England (son of Christopher ALLMEY); died Between 1676 and 1677.

    Notes:

    William is named executor in the will of his father Christopher dated 2 Oct 1624 (see findagrave.com).

    William first came to New England in 1631, then returned to England and came back in 1635 with his wife and two children, on the ship "Abigail." The Almy family first settled in Lynn, MA, then went to Sandwich, MA, where William received a grant of land as one of the founders 1637. He later sold his land in Sandwich and moved to Portsmouth, RI, in 1642, where he received a land grant in 1644. He was made a freeman in 1655 and later was a juryman and a commissioner.

    His will of 1676 mentions his wife (unnamed), sons John, Christopher, and Job; and daughters An and Catharen.

    William is ancestor to at least three US Presidents.

    An online family tree traces Anudrey's ancestry back to King Henry II, through his mistress Ida de Tony. This needs more research to be confirmed.

    It seems from his will of 2 Oct 1624 that he had a brother named William, of Bitswell, England. The text of his will is at findagrave.com; search for Christopher Allmy d 1624.
