    Notes:

According to the death record, Hiram died of "Erysceplus." It appears that his residence was Fall River, but that he died at Baltimore, MD.

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Orman Elsbree was born Between 8 Oct 1792 and 1797, Fall River, Bristol Co., MA (son of Boomer ELSBREE and Hannah LUTHER); died 14 Nov 1847, Fall River, Bristol Co., MA.

    Notes:

"Oman Elsbree" is in the 1830 Federal Census at Troy, Bristol Co., MA. This is Fall River. The household consists of 2 males <5, 1 male 10<15, 1 male 15<20, 1 male 30<40, 1 female 5<10, 1 female 10<15, 1 female 15<20, 1 female 30<40, and 1 female 60<70.

Orman married Lydia B. Rogers Between 1810 and 1812. Lydia was born Abt 1793, MA; died Aft 1 Jun 1850. [Group Sheet]

  2. 3.  Lydia B. Rogers was born Abt 1793, MA; died Aft 1 Jun 1850.

    Notes:

Lydia's name was obtained from the death record of son Hiram.

In the 1850 Federal Census, Lydia B. Ellsbree is age 57, living at a boarding house in New Bedford, Bristol Co., MA. With her are the following: Samuel Ellsbree 40, Joseph Ellsbree 30, Hiram Ellsbree 24, & Eliza A. Ellsbree 32. I am not sure if Eliza is a daughter or daughter-in-law.

    Children:
    1. Samuel Elsbree was born Between 1810 and 1815, MA; died Aft 1 Jun 1850.
    2. Joseph Elsbree was born Abt 1820, MA; died Aft 1 Jun 1850.
    3. 1. Hiram L. Elsbree was born Abt 22 Feb 1828, Fall River, Bristol Co., MA; died 26 Jul 1863, Fall River, Bristol Co., MA.

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Boomer ELSBREE was born 1 Jan 1754, Freetown, Bristol Co., MA (son of Ephraim ELSBREE, Jr. and Jemima SHEPHERD); died 5 May 1830.

    Notes:

Boomer Elsbree is listed as "cousin" in the 1759 will of Lydia Boomer of Freetown, MA. She was his grand-aunt.

Boomer Elsbree, listed as Bomer Elesbery, served as a Revolutionary War soldier. He was a Corporal in Captain Joseph Durfee's company at Freetown. He was also a Colonel in Pope's regiment. He was engaged 7 Dec 1776 and discharged 17 Dec 1776, during which time he served 10 days when the company marched to RI on an alarm. I don't the other dates during which he may have served -- needs more research.

In the 1790 Federal Census, Boomer Elsberry is listed as a resident of Freetown, MA. His household consists of: 2 FWM 16+, 4 FWM <16, and 4 FWF. Possibly the two FWMs 16 and over are Boomer himself and his son Joshua. It appears that there are 4 more sons and three daughters, plus his wife, most likely.

In the 1800 Federal Census at Freetown, Bristol Co., MA, Boomer Elsbree and household are listed as follows: 3 males <10, 1 male 10<16, 3 males 16<26, 1 male >45, 1 female 10<16, and 1 female >45; no people of color are indicated. If all these individuals are the immediate family, we can assume that in 1800 Boomer had at least 7 sons and 1 daughter living at home. This needs more research.

Boomer is listed next to Joseph Brightman 3rd.

Ephraim Elsbree is also listed in Freetown. This may be Boomer's father, or possibly another relative.

In 1810, Boomer Elsbra and family are in Somerset, MA. There are 9 individuals in the household, including only one daughter who must be Mercy..

In 1820 Boomer and family are in Troy, Bristol Co., MA (Fall River). In addition to Boomer and Hannah, there are 3 young males in the household -- probably Edumund, Aaron, and Thomas. I don't see evidence of Rebecca.

I am not sure about whether the last two children really belong here, but they are included in "The Luther Genealogy" p. 280. They don't appear to be in the censuses with the family in 1810 or 1820.

According to family notes, "Boomer was given half the farm from the shore to Elsbree St. Boomer sold it to a Brownell for $1200. Boomer and Brownell went to Tolland, Conn. to settle . . . "

Boomer married Hannah LUTHER 20 Dec 1770, Freetown, Bristol Co., MA. Hannah (daughter of Nathaniel LUTHER, Jr. and Eleanor BOOMER) was born 18 Jul 1757, Swansea, MA; died 5 May 1830. [Group Sheet]

  2. 5.  Hannah LUTHER was born 18 Jul 1757, Swansea, MA (daughter of Nathaniel LUTHER, Jr. and Eleanor BOOMER); died 5 May 1830.

    Notes:

Notes from "The Luther Genealogy" p. 278: Hannah started her family at an extremely young age; lived with her husband in Tolland, CT, for a while; many hundreds of her descendants have their family information on file among the records of Luther family compiler John Francis Elsbree (1912-1994) of Brighton, MA; he was a researcher and genealogist of note, having worked many years on the Elsbree and collateral families.

From the Swansea VRs p. 80: Daughter of Nathaniel Luther and Elliner his wife, Born July ye 18:1757 on a monday

    Notes:

Boomer & Hannah were both of Freetown at the time of their marriage. They were married by George Brightman, Esq.

    Notes:

"The Luther Genealogy" says that Ephraim was killed in the French and Indian War.

The 1800 Federal Census has a listing for Ephraim Elsbree in Freetown, Bristol Co., MA. This may a relative who was named for our ancestor. The household consists of 1 male >45, 1 female <10, 1 female 10<16, and 1 female 16<26. It looks as if this Ephraim's wife is not there.

    Notes:

Nathaniel and his first wife, Sarah Luther, were third cousins. They had four children, including a set of twins, but it appears that most or all of the children died young.

Nathaniel and his second wife, Eleanor Boomer, were first cousins.

Nathaniel lived in Swansea and was a member of the Baptist Church there. According to the church record books, Nathaniel & Eleanor were married 30 Nov 1751. However, the Swansea VRs give the date as 2 Jan 1752.

Nathaniel married Eleanor BOOMER Abt 30 Nov 1751. Eleanor (daughter of Matthew BOOMER and Hannah HATHAWAY) was born 8 Jan 1727/28. [Group Sheet]
