  1. 1.  Avon C. Remington was born Abt 1877, NY (son of George W. Remington and Caroline A. Campbell); died 13 Jan 1951.

    Notes:

In the 1900 Federal Census, he is probably the Aron C. Remington, age 23 NY, living at Delta, Delta Co., CO, working as a railroad clerk.

In 1910 he is Avon C. Remington, 33 NY, still living at Delta, CO. He is now married to May F., age 26 NY, and has a daughter Nieva, 3, CO.

In 1920 they are still at Delta. Avon is 43, Fern M. is 35, and their children are: Neva C. 13, and Avon 4 1/2.

In 1930 the family is still at Delta: Avon 53, Fern M. 45, & Avon Jr. 14.

Avon married Fern May Unknown Abt 1903. Fern was born Between 1884 and 1885, NY; died Aft 1 Apr 1930. [Group Sheet]

    Children:
    1. Neva C. Remington was born Abt 1907, CO; died Aft 1924.
    2. Avon C. Remington, Jr. was born Abt Jul 1915, CO; died Aft 1 Apr 1930.

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  George W. Remington was born Abt 1842, NY (son of William Remington and Caroline Unknown); died Aft 15 Apr 1910.

    Notes:

In the 1870 Federal Census, George & Caroline Remington, ages 27 & 28, are living at Delmar, Tioga Co., PA, where George is a Baptist minister. They have a son, Virgil, 1 year old.

In the 1880 Federal Census, George & Caroline are both age 38. The family is now living at Trout Creek, Tompkins, Delaware Co., NY. They have three children: L. Virgil 11 PA, William 9 PA, & Aron (Avon?) 3 NY.

I have made an assumption that George Remington, the Baptist minister who married Caroline, is the same as George, son of William, and also that this is probably the same George W. Remington who was the 5th pastor of the Hancock Baptist Church, Hancock, Delaware Co., NY. Because of the names William & Virgil for his sons, and because of his age and state of birth, as well as location of pastorate, it is a reasonable assumption that he is the son of William & Caroline.

In the 1900 Federal Census, George W. & Caroline Remington are living at Winchester, Litchfield Co., CT. His occupation is given as "Minister." According to census data, they have been married 34 years and have had four children. They are still in the same town in the 1910 census.

George married Caroline A. Campbell 8 Mar 1866, Oneonta, Otsego Co., NY. Caroline was born Abt 1842, NY; died Aft 15 Apr 1910. [Group Sheet]

  2. 3.  Caroline A. Campbell was born Abt 1842, NY; died Aft 15 Apr 1910.

    Notes:

"REMINGTON-CAMPBELL. In Oneonta, March 8th, by Rev. A. Reynolds, Mr. G. W. Remington, of Croton, to Miss C. A. Campbell, of Oneonta."

    Children:
    1. Virgil L. Remington was born Mar 1869, PA; died Aft 1 Jan 1920.
    2. William E. Remington was born Between 1871 and Mar 1872, PA; died Aft 1 Apr 1930.
    3. 1. Avon C. Remington was born Abt 1877, NY; died 13 Jan 1951.

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  William Remington was born Abt 1813, Meredith, Delaware Co., NY (son of Samuel Remington and Lois Wattles); died 8 Oct 1869, Croton, Delaware Co., NY.

    Notes:

William Remington was a trustee of the Franklin & Meredith school district in 1855 (source: Delaware Co., NY, historical web site).

William died of typhoid fever (source: Delaware Co., NY, historical web site).

In the 1850 Federal Census, William & Caroline Remington are ages 37 & 36, living at Meredith, Delaware Co., NY. with them are three children, George 8, Adeline 6, & Delia 3; also Delia E. Borns age 19. They are living with or next to William's parents and his brother Seba and family. They are also near Martin Remington, 26 NY, who is living with Harry & Lucinda Bell; Lucinda is William's sister.

On 11 June 1855 the family is at Meredith: William 42, Caroline 40, George 12, Adaline 11, Adelia 8, Samuel (father) 74, Lois (mother) 72, and Sally Ricks (servant) 52.

In the 1860 Federal Census, William & Caroline, ages 47 & 46, are still living at Meredith, Delaware Co., NY. With them are their three children, George 18, Adaline 16, & Adelia 13. Also in the household is Lois Remington, age 74 CT, presumably William's mother.

William — Caroline Unknown. Caroline was born Abt 1814, NY; died Aft 1 Jun 1870. [Group Sheet]

  2. 5.  Caroline Unknown was born Abt 1814, NY; died Aft 1 Jun 1870.

    Notes:

In the 1870 Federal Census, Caroline Remington is a recent widow, age 55, still living at Franklin, Delaware Co., NY. With her are daughters Addie 25 & Delia 22.

    Children:
    1. 2. George W. Remington was born Abt 1842, NY; died Aft 15 Apr 1910.
    2. Adaline "Addie" Remington was born Abt 1844, NY; died Aft 1 Jun 1870.
    3. Delia Remington was born 10 Feb 1847, Meredith, Delaware Co., NY; died Aft 1 Jun 1870.

Generation: 4

  1. 8.  Samuel Remington was born 1783, VT (son of Uriah Remington and Sally Camfield); died 24 Mar 1859, West Meredith, Delaware Co., NY; was buried , West Meredith Cemetery, Delaware Co., NY.

    Notes:

Boyd Scott Remington's chart places a Samuel in the family group of Joshua & Eunice Remington, but I question whether he belongs there. According to the "Oliver M. Remington Bible Records" (National DAR Records; referenced in "A Remington Family History" by Lois Remington Smith, p. C-2), Uriah & Sally Remington had a son named Samuel, so it seems more likely that these dates belong to that family. Consequently, I am assigning these dates to this particular Samuel. (My research at the Delaware Co., NY, web site and in census data seems to confirm this.)

The 1810 Federal Census at Delaware Co., NY, lists him as Samuel Ramington.

In the 1820 Federal Census at Meredith, Delaware Co., NY, Samuel Remington's household consists of: 3 males<10, 1 male 26 - 45 (Samuel), 2 females<10, 2 females 10-16, and 1 female 26-45 (wife). This data suggests that at that time they had two daughters (names?) born c 1805-1810, and two more daughters (probably Nancy & Lucinda) and three sons born c 1810-1820 (possibly Clark, Seba, & Wiliam).

In the 1830 census, Samuel is still at Meredith. His household consists of: 1 male<5, 1 male 5<10, 2 males 15<20, 1 male 20<30, 1 male 40<50, 1 female<5, 1 female 5<10, 1 female 10<15, 1 female 20<30, 1 female 40<50, and 1 female 60<70. This suggests that the family had a son and a daughter born c 1825-1830, a son and a daughter born c 1820-1825, one daughter born c 1815-1820, two sons born c 1810-1815, one son and one daughter born c 1800-1810, in addition to Samuel and his wife (40-50), and one older woman (60-70) who may have been a mother or mother-in-law. It seems likely that the household of 1830 included Samuel's married son Seba and his wife and their young children.

In the 1840 census, Samuel and Seba Remington are both listed as heads of households, probably living next to each other. Samuel's household consists of: 2 males 15-20 (Nelson and Martin?), 1 male 20-30 (possibly George, about 20 - 25), 1 male 30-40 (possibly William, about 27), 1 male 60-70 (Samuel), 1 female 10-15 (probably Delia), 1 female 15-20 (?), 2 females 20-30 (Lucinda and ?), and 1 female 50-60 (his wife).

In the 1850 Federal Census, Samuel Remington (surname illegible), age 79 VT, is living at Meredith, Delaware Co., NY. In the household with him are Marcus 66 CT (female), and Delia 21 NY. Also, in the same dwelling but different family group are Linus & Nancy Bronson, ages 36? & 33?. Nancy is probably Samuel's daughter. They are all living next to William & Caroline Remington and family, and on the other side of William are Seba & Delia (should be Julia?) Remington and family.

"Records of the Supervisors of the County of Delaware October 5th, 1813" transcribed by Linda Ogborn, includes notations of payments made to the town account by Daniel Remington and Samuel Remington. (source: Delaware Co., NY, historical web site)

"Sam Remington" had a mill -- probably a flour mill -- in Delaware County in the 1820s. The 1850 census shows his occupation as miller.

Samuel married Lois Wattles Abt 1805. Lois was born Abt 1786, CT; died 1865, Delaware Co., NY. [Group Sheet]

  2. 9.  Lois Wattles was born Abt 1786, CT; died 1865, Delaware Co., NY.

    Notes:

In the 1860 Federal Census, Lois Remington, age 74 CT, is living with her (presumed) son William and his family at Meredith, Delaware Co., NY.

In 1850 her name is given as Marcus (female), age 66 CT. Perhaps the census taker was hard of hearing. The family surname is poorly scribbled, also.

    Children:
    1. Clark Remington was born Abt 1810, Meredith, Delaware Co., NY; died Aft 1 Jun 1880, NY.
    2. Seba Remington was born Abt 1812, Delaware County, NY; died 4 Jun 1864, Croton, Delaware Co., NY.
    3. 4. William Remington was born Abt 1813, Meredith, Delaware Co., NY; died 8 Oct 1869, Croton, Delaware Co., NY.

    5. Lucinda B. Remington was born 30 May 1819, West Meredith, Delaware Co., NY; died Aft 1 Jun 1880.
    6. Nelson Remington was born Abt 1822; died Aft 1 Jun 1880.
    7. Martin Remington was born Abt 1824, NY; died 26 Jun 1896, Deposit, Delaware Co., NY.
    8. Delia Remington was born Abt 1829, NY; died Aft 1 Jun 1860.
