    Notes:

    In the 1910 Federal Census, Gilbert & Bertha Remington are living at Deer Creek, Pickaway Co., OH. With them are three children: Lynetta, Gleneva, & Royal; also, Rosa, Gilbert's sister, age 29.

    In the 1920 Federal Census, Gilbert J. Remington is age 52 and a laborer, living in Logan, Mason Co., MI. It says he is married, but he appears to be boarding with a family of another name. His wife Bertha Remington is living with three of their children at Muskegon Precinct 15, Muskegon Co., MI.

    In 1930 he is age 63 and living at Lake, Lake Co., MI. It says he is widowed. However, his wife has most likely remarried or otherwise divorced and using her maiden name, as she appears in the census as Bertha Bruder living with son Royal.

    Gilbert married Bertha Unknown Abt 1900. Bertha was born Abt 1875, NY; died Aft 1 Apr 1930. [Group Sheet]

    In the Federal Census of 1930, Bertha Bruder is age 55 Wd NY, living at Kalamazoo, MI, with son Royal age 20 OH.

  1. 4.  Gilbert Remington was born Abt 1831, Mexico, NY (son of Joseph Remington and Lydia Gilbert); died Aft 1 Jun 1880.

    Notes:

    Is he the Gilbert Remmington living in Lee, Allegan Co., MI, in 1880? His age is off a few years, but it is probably he and his family. There is a wife named Malinda and four children, and they are living next to an Elsworth family also from NY state. Since Gilbert Remington has a nephew named Elsworth Remington, there may well be a connection here.

    Also, the same family seems to be living at Hobart, Lake Co., IN, in 1870. Here his age agrees -- he is 40, which would put his year of birth c.1830. Consequently, I will enter the family data on the assumption that it pertains to this particular Gilbert Remington (needs research to confirm).

    Another clue is that one of his sons is named Joseph Henry, presumably after his two grandfathers.

    The family must have moved from Indiana to Michigan between 1873 and 1877.

    Gilbert married Malinda Orner Abt 1859. Malinda (daughter of Henry Orner and Harriet Lawrence) was born 6 May 1839, Seneca Co., OH; died Aft 1 Jun 1880. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    In a document dated 3 June 1856, Joseph Remington, brother of Mary Sheldon Remington & Benjamin Remington et al, is mentioned as being of Oswego Co., NY. In the 1850 Federal Census, he is at Mexico, Oswego Co., NY, with his family. Joseph is age 51, his wife Lydia is age 48; and seven children aged 6 - 23 are in the household. (David is not listed, although he listed as age 14 in 1860 -- see notes for Lydia.)

    Notes:

    In the 1860 Federal Census, Lydia Remington is a widow aged 58, living at Mexico, Oswego Co., NY. Other family members are living in the household and nearby. With Lydia are Mary 21, Delia 16, & David 14, (presumably) her three youngest children; also a granddaughter Ella, age 5.

    In the 1870 Federal Census, Lydia is 67, still living at Mexico, NY; her granddaughter Lella Remington, age 15, is still with her. They are living next to James & Sally Wellwood on one side, and Leroy Remington and family on the other side.

    Notes:

    In the 1870 Federal Census at Hobart, Lake Co., IN, Harriet Orner is listed as age 66, a bit younger than her actual age. Also, her birthplace is given as IN, not MD. Is this the same individual? I am making an assumption that it is, and that whoever gave the information to the census taker did not know where Harriet was born. She is living with her daughter and son-in-law, Malinda and Gilbert Remington, and their family.
