In the Federal Census of 1850, Porter & Betsey Graves, ages 28 & 26, are living at Diana, Lewis Co., NY. They have three children: Harriet 7, Henry 6, and Taylor 0. They are living next to Reuben & Elizabeth Remington, and are near Lucius & Mary Remington.

In the Federal Census of 1860, Samuel & Betsy Graves, ages 37 & 33, are still at Diana, NY. They have four children: Harriett 17, Henry 15, Milo 8, & Hannah one month.

Samuel married Elizabeth Betsey Remington 11 Sep 1842, Diana, Lewis Co., NY. Elizabeth (daughter of Jonathan Remington and Unknown Wife) was born Abt 1823, VT; died 4 Oct 1864, Diana, Lewis Co., NY. [Group Sheet]

Information on Elizabeth/Betsey as a daughter of Jonathan came ot me from Mary Lou Raftery. A possibility remains that Elizabeth (Betsey) is daughter of Reuben & Elizabeth Remington, however, as she and her husband are living next to/with them in the 1850 census (see notes for her husband). This needs more research.

In the Federal Census of 1830, listings for Wallingford, Rutland Co., VT, show Jonathan Rimmington and Jonathan Rimmington Jr. Jonathan Jr. has three children in the household: 1 female 5<10, 1 female <5, and 1 male <5.

In the Federal Census of 1840, a Jonathan Remington appears at Wallingford, VT. However, according to Mary Lou Raftery, this Jonathan is at Diana, Lewis Co., NY (not accessible at ancestry.com).

Information on the 1865 census at Diana, NY, is from Mary Lou Raftery: Jonathan Remington 61 VT, Nathan Remington son-in-law 37 Jeff. NY, Rhoda Remington 34 child VT, Emily J. Walod 19 adopted Jeff. NY, Jonathan A. Bowhall 4 adopted Lewis Co., NY.

In the 1870 census, Johnathan Remington 66 VT is living at Champion, Jefferson Co., NY. He is with married daughter Phebe C. and her husband Abner Smith and famiy.

In the Federal Census of 1880, Jonathan Remington is age 78 VT, living with the family of George Collar in Diana, Lewis Co., NY. Jonathan is identified as grandfather. His brother John, age 90 in the census, is also living at Diana, NY.

Who was his wife? Where is he in the censuses of 1850 and 1860?

The intersection of NY Rts. 3 & 812 in Diana, Lewis Co., NY, is called "Remington Corners."

Credit note: The list of Jonathan's children and descendants (except for Phebe Celestia and her family, and the above-mentioned George Collar and his family) came to me from Mary Lou Raftery.

Jonathan served in the Revolution from MA & VT. He enlisted at Cummington, MA.

His marriage to Martha was obtained from Rootsweb's Worldconnect, so needs verification to determine that it is the same Jonathan Remington. That genealogy lists 11 children for this couple. Other family notes I have seen agree.

I could not find his birth record at Abington, but Lois Remington Smith lists Jonathan with the children of Joshua & Ruth.

However, some genealogies have this Jonathan as a son of Thomas Remington b 1726 and his wife Rachel Stowell.

Also, others show his birthplace as Cummington, Hampshire Co., MA, and his death as c 1840 at Wallingford, VT.

The Federal Census of 1830 at Wallingford, Rutland Co., VT lists a Jonathan Rimmington and a Jonathan Rimmington Jr. The household of the former includes 1 male age 70<80, 1 female 50>60; and three other females -- 1-40<50, 1-10<15, & 1-15<20.

In 1833 when he appeared for his pension hearing, he said he had lived in Wallingford for 51 years (since 1782).

The last pension payment was made 12 Sep 1834 (to his wife?).

Jonathan married Martha Sprague Abt 1786. Martha (daughter of Joseph Sprague and Mary Thompson) was born Abt 1765, Danby, Rutland, VT; died Abt Sep 1834. [Group Sheet]
