    Notes:

I am not sure that this marriage belongs in this family group, but based on the following marriage record, I am entering this information for this particular Samuel:

ROGERS Samuel, of John, and Lydia Holmes, of Capt. Jonathan; m. by Gov. Samuel Cranston, Jan. 31, 1705-6.

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  John Rogers was born 8 Oct 1641, Newport, RI (son of James Rogers and Mary Unknown); died 27 Mar 1716, Newport, RI.

    Notes:

I am not absolutely sure that the following will pertains to this particular John Rogers. However, I have tentatively assumed such in entering his date of death and names of family members:
The will of John Rogers of Newport, dated 14 Feb 1714, proved 2 Apr 1716, mentions wife Elinor and the following children: Samuel, John, and dtr. Mary Hamble [possibly Hambley?].

I don't know if any of his children were born of the second wife.

Some genealogies show a son Joseph. There was a Joseph Rogers of Newport who died in Oct 1711, and this may well be John's son (Joseph named a son John; he later settled in Middletown, CT). Joseph had a wife Elizabeth who died at Tiverton, at about 27 yrs of age.

John married Elizabeth Unknown Abt 1665. Elizabeth died 24 Oct 1676, Newport, RI. [Group Sheet]

  2. 3.  Elizabeth Unknown died 24 Oct 1676, Newport, RI.

    Notes:

Elizabeth Rogers, wife of John, died at Newport 24 Oct 1676 (RI Friends' Records).

    1. John Rogers was born 1668; died 11 Aug 1727; was buried , Common Burying Ground, Newport, RI.

    3. 1. Samuel Rogers was born Abt 1675.

  1. 4.  James Rogers died 1676.

    Notes:

Some information on James & Mary and their descendants came from Genealogical Dictionary of RI, by John Osborne Austin.

It has been speculated that James may be a son of Thomas Rogers, Mayflower Pilgrim.

James Rogers was admitted freeman at Newport 7 Sep 1640, and was elected Sgt of the General Assembly 15 Mar 1643. He continued in this position until 1664. James was the Solicitor General in 1657.
