In the Federal Census of 1910, Stephen A. & Mary E. Congdon, ages 66 & 58, are living at East Greenwich, RI. One son, Herbert, age 34, is living with them. According to the census data, they have been married 39 years; Mary has had 5 children, 4 of whom are still living.

In the Federal Census of 1920, Stephen A. & Mary E. Congdon, ages 75 & 67, are living on Main Street in Coventry, RI.

Stephen married Mary Eliza Harrington Abt 1871. Mary (daughter of Nicholas W. Harrington and Sarah Greene Brown) was born 7 Dec 1851, West Greenwich, Kent Co., RI; died 27 Nov 1926, North Kingstown, RI; was buried , Woodland Cemetery, Washington & Knotty Oak Sts., Coventry, RI. [Group Sheet]

In the 1850 Federal Census, Nicholas W. & Sarah G. Harrington, ages 26 & 31, are living at West Greenwich, RI. Children in the family are: Catherine G. B. 10, Pardon D. 7, Dimes R. 5, & Solomon W. 3. I am not sure if all of these children belong to both of these parents. They are next door, or with, Solomon Brown and family, probably Sarah's parents and siblings.

Nicholas married Sarah Greene Brown 30 Jan 1842. Sarah (daughter of Solomon Brown and Russel Austin) was born Abt 1819, West Greenwich, RI; died 2 Apr 1886, RI; was buried , Woodland Cemetery, Washington & Knotty Oak Sts., Coventry, RI. [Group Sheet]

The RI Death Index identifies his parents as Job & Meribah.

In the 1850 Federal Census, Whitman & Dameris are living at West Greenwich, RI. With them are Mary A. & Jobe W. Next door are Bradford J. Harrington & Rosanna.

In 1860 Whitman & Demie are still at West Greenwich. In the household are Job W., 17 (son), as well as three grandchildren: William H. 14, Benjamin A. 7, & Charles W. 4. Also there is a member of the Sweet family.

In the 1870 Federal Census, Whitman & Dimaris are ages 55 & 56, still at West Greenwich. He is a farmer and she is keeping house. It looks as if they may be keeping the town Poor House.

In 1880, Whitman & Damares are ages 75 & 76, still at West Greenwich. With them are son Job, in addition to three grandsons and two granddaughters, plus one servant.

Whitman married Dameras "Demie" Straight Abt 1821. Dameras (daughter of David Straight, Jr. and Phebe Franklin) was born 13 Jan 1804, RI; died 29 Apr 1881; was buried , Woodland Cemetery, Washington & Knotty Oak Sts., Coventry, RI. [Group Sheet]

Her name has been spelled several different ways. The gravestone has it as "Dameras." The censuses, from 1850 to 1880, spell it as follows: Dameris, Demie/Dimie, Dimaris, & Damares.

Probably her name was really Damaris, an Bible name often used in early Rhode Island, and her nickname was Demmie or Dimmie.

Her grandmother Mary Aylesworth had a sister named Damaris, so this was probably a name passed down in this family line.

In the 1850 Federal Census, Solomon & "Russy" C. Brown, ages 81 & 68, are living at West Greenwich, RI. With them are Aaron Brown 29, and Amanda Brown 22. They are next door to -- or with -- Nicholas W. & Sarah G. Harrington and family. Sarah is a daughter of the Browns.
