Alfred Smith, son of Benjamin, was a member of the Exeter Church on 2 Jul 1821.

The will of Benjamin Smith of NK, yeoman, is dated 29 Feb 1844, proved 29 Aug 1850. It mentions his wife Mary; sons William, Albert, Harris, Russell, Alfred U. Dec'd, and Thomas Dec'd; daughter Catherine Wightman; grandchildren George and Lucretia, children of Alfred dec'd. Other documents refer to two other daughters: Avis Ann Spink and Catherine Wightman.

In the record of his birth, the last digit was burned off, so his exact birth year is not known. DAR files have it as 1739.

The gravestone says he died in his 84th year.

Shirley Greene's notes (email) say he left over 100 descendants (from obit in Prov Journal?).

"The Austin family owned large farms both east and west of the Post Road. The first Austin, James, was in North Kingstown in the early 1730s. His old homestead stood east of the Post Road opposite Frenchtown Road, on the slope overlooking the Hunt River north of where Grossman's now stands. His great grandson, Fones, occupied it for many years. It was torn down in the mid-1920s having become derelict and a haven for tramps. Austin Road and Austin Farm Bridge on the Post Road are named for the several farms owned by successive generations of Austins." (source: "Graveyards of North Kingstown, Rhode Island" by Althea H. The will of Christopher Allen of NK is dated 25 Apr 1816, and proved 13 Dec 1818. It mentions sons Thomas, Benjamin, and Silas; dtrs Mary (w/o Wm Cory), Anna (w/o Caleb Allen), Martha (w/o Jo__ Allen), Freelove (w/o Philip Arnold), and Elizabeth; grandchildren George and Anna.

Christopher married Margaret Allen Abt 1754. Margaret (daughter of Freelove Smith) was born Abt 1735. [Group Sheet]

During the Revolutionary War, John was taken from his home at night and brought to Newport, where he was in prison for about four months. His wife and children were driven from the family home, and the house was burned to the ground by the British.

Known as Judge Allen, John served as both representative and senator in the RI General Assembly and was a Justice in the court system.

He died as a result of an attack by a bull in his pasture.

The will of John Allen of NK, Esq., is dated 12 June 1813, proved 9 Aug 1813. It mentions wife Martha, d/o Christopher Allen; sons Thomas Gould, Christopher, Ray Greene, and Samuel; dtrs Lucretia dec'd w/o Silas Allen, Lydia Carpenter, Mary Gould, Susanna, and Lucy Anne; children of dec'd daughter Lucretia: George, James, and Anne.

In his Genealogy of the Allen Family, Daniel Gould Allen has John's date of birth as March 27 1747.

John married Mary Gould 26 Jan 1769, North Kingstown, RI. Mary (daughter of Daniel Gould and Mary Fry) was born 1743; died 10 Nov 1784. [Group Sheet]
