Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Albert G. Walker was born Abt 1810, Scituate, Providence Co., RI (son of Peleg Walker and Mary Potter).

Albert married Patience Ann Remington 1832. Patience (daughter of Peleg C. Remington and Delanie Brown) was born Abt 1815, Pawtuxet, RI; died 13 Jul 1870, Ogle Co., IL. [Group Sheet]

  2. 3.  Patience Ann Remington was born Abt 1815, Pawtuxet, RI (daughter of Peleg C. Remington and Delanie Brown); died 13 Jul 1870, Ogle Co., IL.

    Notes:

I am not sure that Patience belongs in this family group. However, she is a daughter of Peleg Remington and was born in Pawtuxet, so this is one of two families she could belong in. I have placed her here because Peleg C. Remington and family were living in Scituate in the 1830 census, and Patience's husband Albert was born in Scituate.

Read about her and her family in "Portrait and Biographical Record of Winnebago and Boone Counties, Illinois" p 441 (Google Books).

In the 1850 Federal Census at Brooklyn, CT, she is named as Ann E.

The 1830 Federal Census lists Peleg C. Remington and family living at Scituate, Providence Co., RI.

In the Federal Census of 1850, the family is at Providence, Ward 6, RI: Peleg C. 61, Delany 57, Esther B. 27, Delaney B. 23, Irene G. 21, & Mariah C. 16 (all b RI except Esther b MA). Peleg is a machinist.

In the 1860 Federal Census, Peleg C. & Delaney B. Remington are ages 71 & 66, living in Ward 6, Providence, RI. With them are Ester B., 36, and Irena J., 26. Next door are George & Delaney (Remington) Randall and family.

There is a large monument in the Pawtuxet Cemetery which has Peleg's name and dates on it. There is also a masonic symbol on it. This monument has been photographed.

    Notes:

The RI Death Index identifies her parents as Obadiah & Esther Brown. I have made an assumption, based on accumulated facts, that her parents are Obadiah & Esther (Wood) Brown of Swansea, MA, and Sterling, CT.

Her name is sometimes spelled Delaney, but the family gravestones spell it Delanie.

  1. 10.  William Potter was born Abt 1764 (son of William Potter and Lydia Arnold); died 16 May 1850; was buried , William Potter Lot, Winsor Rd., Foster, RI.

    Notes:

The marriage record with Barbara identifies him as son of Capt. William, of Providence.

The marriage record with Lydia identifies him as son of William.

I have made an assumption that these two marriages belong to this William.

William married Mary Ellis 1 May 1786, Warwick, Kent Co., RI. Mary (daughter of Benjamin Ellis and Mary Tucker) was born 26 Jun 1765, Warwick, Kent Co., RI; died 6 Sep 1824; was buried , William Potter Lot, Winsor Rd., Foster, RI. [Group Sheet]

She was a daughter of Benjamin & Mary of Warwick.

    2. 5. Mary Potter was born Abt 1793; died 26 Nov 1837; was buried , William Potter Lot, Winsor Rd., Foster, RI.

  3. 12.  Thomas Remington was born 26 Sep 1758 (son of Peleg Remington, I and Waite Rhodes); died 15 Feb 1819, Pawtuxet, RI; was buried , Historical Cemetery 3, Post Rd., Pawtuxet Village, Warwick, RI.

    Notes:

Death notice in the Columbian Centinel of 20 Feb 1819: "Capt. Thomas Remmington, d. in Pawtuxet, aged 61."

RI American, death notice: "Capt. Thomas Remington, d. at Pawtuxet in 61st yr., 15 Feb 1819, a nautical commander, Masonic honors."

According to a local historian, Ginny Leslie, Thomas Remington lived in a house now at 100 Post Rd. in Pawtuxet Village. Elsewhere it has been stated that he lived at 47 Post Rd., but Ms. Leslie states that this is incorrect.

From an email from Ms. Leslie, dated 20 Jan 2010, concerning "a certain house (100 Post Road) . . . According to land evidence records, this is the Thomas Remington House. He bought the land from Malachi and Peter Rhodes. Many years ago, Hazel Kennedy, a local historian, claimed that the house at 47 Post Road was the Thomas Remington house dating from around 1740 but this is NOT TRUE. That is the Peleg Rhodes House and dates to about 1800 (it is obviously a federal house, not a colonial one). Thomas Remington never owned the house and it appears Peleg Rhodes lived there until his death, which was after TR's death in 1819. Unfortunately, people continue to identify this house as Thomas Remington's."

Thomas married Ruth Burlingame 7 Dec 1783, Cranston, RI. Ruth (daughter of Peter Burlingame) was born Abt 15 May 1759; died 15 Aug 1810; was buried , Historical Cemetery 3, Post Rd., Pawtuxet Village, Warwick, RI. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

They were married by Nehemiah Knight, Justice.

    Children:
    1. Thomas Remington was born 25 Jan 1786; died 20 Feb 1790; was buried , Historical Cemetery 3, Post Rd., Pawtuxet Village, Warwick, RI.

    5. Patience B. Remington was born 10 Jul 1800; died 12 Jun 1812; was buried , Historical Cemetery 3, Post Rd., Pawtuxet Village, Warwick, RI.

  5. 14.  Obadiah Brown was born 20 Mar 1761, Swansea, MA (son of Aaron Brown and Catherine Bell); died Aft 21 Nov 1815.

    Notes:

Most of the information in these notes and data on Obadiah, his wife Esther, and son Seth W. came from "John Browne, Gentleman of Plymouth" by George Tilden Brown.

However, in this book George says that Seth W. is their only child; but the RI Death Index identifies Delaney (Brown) Remington as daughter of Obadiah & Esther. Family names bear this out as accurate.

Obadiah was made a freeman of Sterling, CT, 10 Apr 1791.

On 11 Oct 1796 he was referred to as "of Swansea" when he conveyed land in Swansea, MA, to Samuel Luther.

On 6 Feb 1803 he was "of Sterling, CT" when he conveyed other land in Swansea, MA, to the same Samuel Luther.

I believe this was probably the Samuel Luther who was Obadiah's brother-in-law, husband of sister Rebekah.

Obadiah's wife Esther signed both of the above deeds.

Obadiah shows up in town records of Sterling, CT, between 1805 and 1812, including a sale on 1 Aug 1811 to Seth W. Brown of Sterling.

Also, on 21 Nov 1815 there were two deeds signed by Obadiah & Esther. These refer to John Wood; also to Seth Wood, late of Swansea. Esther is identified as one of Seth's heirs, along with Miller Wood, a son.

Obadiah married Esther Wood 28 Aug 1783. Esther (daughter of Seth Wood and Roby Rounds) was born Abt 1763; died Aft 21 Nov 1815. [Group Sheet]

  6. 15.  Esther Wood was born Abt 1763 (daughter of Seth Wood and Roby Rounds); died Aft 21 Nov 1815.
