Generation: 1

  1. 1.  George Munday was born 18 Mar 1799, North Kingstown, RI (son of Nathaniel Munday and Elizabeth Ann Unknown); died 26 May 1855, Fall River, MA.

    Notes:

Nathaniel Monday son of George was baptized as an "adult" at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Wickford on 18 July 1819. It does not say how old he was. The church records also mention Captain George Monday and his wife Ann (baptized 1821), and daughters Elizabeth, Hannah, and Phebe, all baptized 2 Jan 1825. Ludowick and Daniel Updike were associated with this church in 1809.

George Munday and family are in the 1820 census at North Kingstown, RI. The family has 4 individuals: one male age 26-44, one female age 26-44, one male child under age 10, and one female child under age 10.

In 1840, George Munday and family are in Fall River, MA.

In the 1850 Census, they are still in Fall River: George Munday 60 (Nova Scotia?), Anna 59 RI, Hannah B. 27 RI, Phebe T. 26 RI, Lucy P. 21 RI; and George W. Whitaker 10 MA. George Munday is a clerk. His birthplace is not correct -- see his birth record in RI and death record in MA.

The death record at Fall River says he died at age 65 of lung fever. It gives his birthplace as RI, and names his parents as Nathaniel and Elizabeth, which agrees with his birth record.

George married Ann Unknown Abt 1818. Ann was born Abt 1791; died Aft 1850. [Group Sheet]

    Children:
    1. Nathaniel Munday was born Abt 1818, RI; died 27 Jan 1887, Livingston, NJ; was buried , North Burial Ground, Bristol, RI.
    2. Elizabeth Munday was born Abt 1821.
    3. Hannah B. Munday was born Abt 1823.
    4. Phebe Tisdale Munday was born 16 Jul 1824, North Kingstown, RI; died 1 Sep 1914, Providence, RI.

  1. 2.  Nathaniel Munday was born 26 Nov 1755, Stamford, CT (son of William Munday and Hannah King); died 2 Jan 1827, Wickford, North Kingstown, RI; was buried , Old Church Graveyard, Wickford, RI.

    Notes:

In the 1810 census, Nathaniel is listed as a head of household in North Kingstown, RI.

In the 1820 census, Nathaniel is listed again as a head of household in North Kingstown, RI. The household consists of three free white males -- one age 16-18, one age 16-25, and one age 45+ (who I assume is Nathaniel).

Also in the same census and same town is George Munday (age 25-44) with a wife and two children under age 10, one male and one female.

I found two references to a Nathaniel Munday of North Kingstown as follows. In an estate document for James Church, a letter of Administration was given to Nathaniel Munday, merchant, of NK, dated 7 March 1808; also Nathanial Munday of NK, yeoman, was mentioned in a deed of William Gardner of Exeter, dated 1 Aug 1812. These two documents may refer to the same individual.

He died in Wickford 2 January 1827, age 72 (Newport Mercury 6 January 1827 and lost gravestone). "Capt. Nathaniel MUNDAY died Jan 2, 1827 aged 72 years."

Nathaniel married Elizabeth Ann Unknown Bef 1799. Elizabeth was born Abt 1770; died Aft Mar 1799, RI. [Group Sheet]

  2. 3.  Elizabeth Ann Unknown was born Abt 1770; died Aft Mar 1799, RI.

    Notes:

Elizabeth Munday is mentioned in the birth and death records of her son George. I have made an assumption that she is the first wife of this particular Nathaniel, based on location and time frame.

I have roughly estimated her birth year.

    Children:
    1. 1. George Munday was born 18 Mar 1799, North Kingstown, RI; died 26 May 1855, Fall River, MA.

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  William Munday was born 21 Jul 1734, Bristol, RI (son of Richard Munday and Elizabeth Eliza Hubbard).

William married Hannah King 10 Jun 1755, Stamford, CT. Hannah was born 6 Jul 1737; died 10 Apr 1760, Stamford, CT; was buried , St. John's and St. Andrew's Episcopal Cemetery, Stamford, CT. [Group Sheet]

  2. 5.  Hannah King was born 6 Jul 1737; died 10 Apr 1760, Stamford, CT; was buried , St. John's and St. Andrew's Episcopal Cemetery, Stamford, CT.
    Children:
    1. 2. Nathaniel Munday was born 26 Nov 1755, Stamford, CT; died 2 Jan 1827, Wickford, North Kingstown, RI; was buried , Old Church Graveyard, Wickford, RI.
    2. Sarah Ann Munday was born 5 Sep 1757, Stamford, CT.

Generation: 4

  1. 8.  Richard Munday was born Abt 1690; died 1738, Newport or Bristol, RI.

    Notes:

Richard was a noted housewright and architect in Newport.

Boston records refer to a Richard Munday in Boston, winecooper, who had a wife named Martha in 1728.

The dates for his five children are baptismal dates from St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Bristol, RI. I don't know if they were actually born in Bristol or in Newport.

A Plymouth, MA, court record of 1736 mentions Richard Munday "Bristoll yeoman or Houswright" in a court case involving a cow that was not returned by him to the plaintif, Otiss Little, gentleman of Pembrooke.

The will of Richard Munday of Newport, housewright, dated 1738, mentions his wife Elizabeth and 5 children: William, Nathaniel, Richard, Mary, and Rebecca. No grandchildren are mentioned (it appears that he died when his children were very young).

Richard married Elizabeth Eliza Hubbard 27 Jan 1731/32, Bristol, RI. Elizabeth (daughter of Nathaniel Hubbard and Elizabeth Nelson) was born 9 Dec 1708, Braintree, Norfolk Co., MA; died Abt Jun 1773. [Group Sheet]

  2. 9.  Elizabeth Eliza Hubbard was born 9 Dec 1708, Braintree, Norfolk Co., MA (daughter of Nathaniel Hubbard and Elizabeth Nelson); died Abt Jun 1773.

    Notes:

Her name is given as Elizabeth in the marriage record and Eliza in the children's birth records. I have roughly estimated her birth year.

She could not have been the daughter of Rebecca Gore who married Nathaniel Hubbard in 1726. I believe Elizabeth and all her siblings (that I know of) were children of Nathaniel's first wife.

She is mentioned as a daughter in the 1747 will of her father Nathaniel Hubbard; the will also mentions two of her sons, William and Nathaniel. This suggests that her son Richard may have died by the date of the will.

I am not sure of this date for Elizabeth's death. Ezra Stiles mentions the death of a "Mrs. Munday" in June 1773, so it may refer to Richard's widow (source: research from Cherry Fletcher Bamberg, RIGS).

    Children:
    1. Mary Munday was born 11 Mar 1732/33, Bristol, RI.
    2. 4. William Munday was born 21 Jul 1734, Bristol, RI.
    3. Nathaniel Munday was born 28 Sep 1735, Bristol, RI; died Abt 20 Mar 1785, Stamford, CT.
    4. Rebecca Munday was born 2 Jan 1736/37, Bristol, RI.
    5. Richard Munday was born 12 Mar 1737/38, Bristol, RI.
