  1. 2.  Darius A. Remington was born 1833, Cayuga Co., NY (son of Orlando O. Remington and Mary Blackwell); died 16 Dec 1901, Brutus, Cayuga Co., NY; was buried , Weedsport Rural Cemetery, Cayuga Co., NY.

    Notes:

    It appears that in 1850 and 1860, Darius is in Allen, Hillsdale, MI, living as a farm laborer, although he is listed with his family in Brutus.

    In the 1865 NY State Census, Darius 31, Mary 29, and Ernest age 1 are living in Brutus, Cayuga Co., NY.

    In the 1875 NY State Census, the family is in Brutus, Cayuga Co., NY: Darius 41, Mary 38, Ernest 11, and Maud 4, all born Cayuga Co. They are living next to Nathan and Mary Hopkins and family, including Mary Remington 83. Mary is Darius's grandmother, and Sarah is his aunt.

    According to the 1880 Federal and 1892 NY State censuses, Darius is a bricklayer mason and laborer.

    Darius married Martha Maria Redmond Aft 1870. Martha was born 1843; died 1931; was buried , Weedsport Rural Cemetery, Cayuga Co., NY. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    In 1860, Orlando and Mary are living at Brutus, Cayuga Co., NY, with four sons in the home -- Darius, Edward, William, and Charles. However, it appears that in 1850 and 1860, Darius is in Allen, Hillsdale, MI, living as a farm laborer, although he is listed with his family in Brutus.

    In 1865, the family is at Brutus: Orlando O. 52, Mary 51, Wm. Henry 20, and Charles T.? 16.

    Findagrave.com has his name as Orlando O., probably middle name Olmstead. This middle initial is also in the 1865 NY State Census.

    Orlando married Mary Blackwell 1832. Mary was born 1812; died 1888; was buried , Weedsport Rural Cemetery, Cayuga Co., NY. [Group Sheet]

  1. 8.  Zeno Remington was born 1785 (son of Jabez Remington and Penelope Mills); died Bef 1830, NY.

    Notes:

    In the 1820 census, Zeno Remington is head of household in Brutus, Cayuga Co., NY. There are 2 males under 10, 1 male 26-44, 1 female under 10, and one female 25-44. The adults are Zeno and Mary; the two boys are likely Orlando (9) and Philander (2), and the girl could be Mary (not sure of her exact age).

    By 1830 Zeno is not there and assumed to have died. See his wife Mary for notes.

    I have made an assumption that Theodore is a son in this family, based on a few points: 1) he named a son Zeno; 2) his birth year range and location place him here; and 3) Theodore and Philander are both mentioned in a land assessment as grantees Jan 1849.

    Zeno married Mary Waity Olmsted Jan 1810. Mary (daughter of Ambrose Olmsted, Jr. and Mary Palmer) was born Abt 1793; died 1 Nov 1875; was buried , Weedsport Rural Cemetery, Cayuga Co., NY. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    In the 1830 census, Mary Remington is listed as head of household with four children. Researcher Katie Mills gives the name of only one of these children, Orlan. It appears there were two other sons and one daughter. See my notes below:

    In 1850, Mary Remington is age 55, living in Brutus with Philander Remington and family. I am assuming he is her son. Also there is Mary E. Remington, 28, apparently single. I am making an assumption she is a daughter.
