  1. 1.  Ellen Perry Sharpe was born Between 1836 and 1838, GA (daughter of Hamilton Wynn Sharpe and Jane Perry); died 1923.

    Notes:

    According to the 1860 census, she would have been born c1838. (see notes for her husband Charles)

    "In 1863, a Savannah editor thanked Thomasville's Mrs. Charles Remington for sending a 'bountiful supply of pepper and sage for the use of hospitals.' " (Savannah Republican, 12 Sept 1863, quoted in "Thomas County During the Civil War," by William Rogers)

    In the 1875 Rhode Island Census, Ellen P. Remington is age 38, living in Providence, RI. Her three sons are with her: Simeon H. 20, Charles H. 18, & Hamilton S. 15. They are living near Albert F. Remington and his family, and William H. Remington and his family, brothers and sons of Benjamin & Matilda (Spink) Remington.

    In 1880 E. P. Remington is age 42 and living at Quitman, Brooks Co., GA, with her son C.H. (Charles, Jr.), who keeps a hotel there. Her son Hamilton is also with them, and Simeon is nearby in town with his wife. They are next door to Ellen's sister Jane P. Joiner and her family. Jane & Ellen's parents, Hamilton & Jane Sharpe, are also living in town.

    In1900 she is living with son Charles and several other family members at Quitman, GA; by 1910 Charles has (probably) died so she is with son Hamilton and his family at Columbus, Muscogee Co., GA.

    Ellen married Charles Henry Remington, Sr. 29 Jan 1854, GA. Charles (son of Charles Remington and Elizabeth "Betsey" Stafford) was born Between 1820 and 1822, RI; died 23 Nov 1861. [Group Sheet]

    2. Charles Henry Remington, Jr. was born 12 Aug 1856, Thomasville, GA; died 17 Jan 1910, Quitman, GA; was buried , Oak Hill Cemetery, Quitman, GA.
    3. Hamilton Sharpe Remington was born Abt Dec 1858, GA; died Aft 18 Apr 1910.

  1. 2.  Hamilton Wynn Sharpe was born 10 Apr 1807, Tattnall Co., GA (son of John Sharpe, Jr. and Elizabeth "Betsey" Wynn); died Aft 1 Jun 1880.

    Notes:

    In the 1850 Federal Census, H. W. Sharpe and family are living at District 81, Thomas Co., GA: H. W. 50, Jane 45, William 17, Ellen 14, James 12, Jane 9, & Betsey Thomas 6.

    In the 1870 Federal Census, Hamilton & Jane Sharp are ages 63 & 62, living at Valdosta, Lowndes Co., GA. Also in town are several other Sharp families, most likely their children and grandchildren. Their three Remington grandsons are living with the William Sharp family next door.

    In 1880, H. W. & Jane Sharpe are ages 73 & 71, living at Quitman, Brooks Co., GA. In their home are three boarders and four servants.

    The information on Hamilton's parents was found at Rootsweb's Worldconnect, the family tree of Pamela D. Hudson. Another database has different dates for Elizabeth Wynn. This needs more research to confirm the names and dates.

    Notes:

    According to information posted at Rootsweb's Worldconnect (Pamela D. Hudson's family tree), John and his father John Sr. were both Revolutionary soldiers. The family moved from VA to GA about 1775/76, first settling in Burke County, and later moving to Tattnall County, acquiring land on the Ogeechee River. The Sharpe plantation is now a part of the state prison property.

    The surname is spelled variously as Sharp or Sharpe in the historical records.
