Notes:

In the 1813 Rate Book for Mansfield, p. 21, a Joseph Marshall living at Stockwell Gate paid 1/10 - 1/2 (one shilling ten and a half pence). That reference could pertain to this particular Joseph Marshall, our ancestor.

In the 1841 census, Joseph & Sarah Marshall, their ages given as 60 & 50, are living on Bancroft Lane in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England. In the household are Phoebe 30, Elizabeth 25, James 15, Eliza 15, William 9, & Harriett 4. (In the 1841 census ages above 15 were rounded down to the nearest 5 years.) I have made an assumption that all of the children belong to Joseph & Sarah (needs research to confirm).

Joseph married Sarah PEET 12 Apr 1805, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England. Sarah was born Abt 1785, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England; died Aft Apr 1851. [Group Sheet]

I have roughly estimated Sarah's year of birth. Her age is rounded down to 50 in the 1841 census.

In 1851 Sarah Marshall is age 65, still living at 20 Bancroft Lane, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Her occupation is given as seamer/pauper. with her are daughters Phoebe and Eliza, ages 45 and 23, and a granddaughter Harriett, 10. They appear to be living next door to Sarah's daughter Ann (Marshall) Slack and her family -- our ancestors. Also nearby are John & Mary Peet and family, no doubt related to Sarah; other families named Clay are near, somehow related to the Peet family, as one household includes a nephew named Richard Peet.
