Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Thomas Sweet was born , Warwick, RI (son of Philip Sweet, II and Elizabeth Blackington); died Aft 5 Apr 1760.

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Philip Sweet, II was born Between 1675 and 1785 (son of Philip Sweet, I and Unknown Wife).

    Notes:

I am making an assumption that the Philip Sweet mentioned as a son in the will of Philip Sweet (dated 12 Dec 1709 at Warwick) is the same Philip Sweet mentioned as a father in the will of Pentecost Sweet (dated 5 April 1760 at Warwick). The dates seem to fit, and some of the children's names are the same in succeeding generations. However, this needs more research to confirm.

Philip married Elizabeth Blackington Abt 1710. Elizabeth (daughter of Pentecost Blackington and Ann Pederick) was born Abt Dec 1689, Marblehead, MA. [Group Sheet]

  2. 3.  Elizabeth Blackington was born Abt Dec 1689, Marblehead, MA (daughter of Pentecost Blackington and Ann Pederick).

    7. Elizabeth Sweet was born Between 1720 and 1730, Warwick, RI.

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Philip Sweet, I was born 15 Jul 1655, Warwick, RI (son of James Sweet and Mary Greene); died Abt Dec 1710, Warwick, RI.

    Notes:

Philip's will mentions a wife (unnamed), a son Philip, and a daughter Renewed.

A message board posting says that Philip married Elizabeth Allen (widow of William Allen). (SWEET-L Archives at Rootsweb)

I have made an assumption that Philip died at Warwick, his place of residence.

Some genealogies have a Renewed Sweet marrying a John Remington. Is Renewed the same person as Mariam Sweet?

The will of Pentecost Blackinton, yeoman, of Attleboro, was dated 23 Sep 1715, and probated 1 Nov 1715. It mentions but does not name his wife; mentions sons Benjamin (eldest) and Pentecost, and daughter Elizabeth; mentions but does not name "all my other children." (source: Abstracts of Bristol County, Massachusetts Probate Records, 1687-1745 By H. L. Peter Rounds, p 68; Google Books)

    Notes:

The information on the Sweet family and their connection to the Greenes came from Jayne at [LACKSWEET@aol.com]. She is a descendant who now lives in Oklahoma. She stated that she had not yet proved all the information. Additional information is found in the Rhode Island Genealogical Register, Vol. 5, No. 4, pp. 344 ff: "Families of James & Benoni Sweet of Warwick," by Alden Gamaliel Beaman.

Source of the following is Boston Evening Transcript, 26 Aug 1912, at Google News Archive Search:
