The names of Henry's children came from "Family Notes," an unpublished manuscript at the Knight Library in Providence.

In the 1880 Federal Census at Providence, Henry & Mary are with Gracie & Charles, next door to "Grandpa & Grandma Remington."

In the Federal Census of 1900, Henry S. & Mary C. Remington, ages 50 & 51, are living at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT. With them are two sons, Charley H. 24, & Harold K. 14. Also, there are 7 boarders listed at their residence.

Henry's cause of death: apoplexy.

Henry married Mary Colvin Reynolds 19 May 1869, Providence, RI. Mary was born 15 Oct 1848, RI; died 18 Oct 1923. [Group Sheet]

Could she be the Mary Remington 77 CT (widow) living with Arthur M. & Annie M. Remington at Warwick in the 1920 census? Possibly. They would have been 2nd cousins by marriage.

In his father's will, Thomas was given land in Cranston.

Thomas is also mentioned in the will of his uncle, John Rice.

In the 1880 Federal Census, Thomas 62 & Abbey E. 60 are living in Providence, RI, and have two boarders. Next door is son Henry S. Remington and family. Thomas is a grocer.

Cause of death: fall from staging.

Thomas married Abbie Eliza Knight 28 Mar 1844, Cranston, RI. Abbie (daughter of Sheldon Knight and Irene Babcock) was born 18 Dec 1820, Cranston, RI; died 4 Oct 1899, Knightsville, Cranston, RI; was buried , Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, RI. [Group Sheet]

Cause of death: apoplexy. The RI Death Index gives her date of death as 4 Nov 1899.

Email excerpts from Mark Remington: "Abbie Elizabeth Knight, mother of Henry Sheldon Remington was born on December 8, 1820, married to Thomas Remington on March 28, 1844, and died on October 4, 1899."

"I have Abbie's birthdate as December 8, 1820 (based on an SAR application that my great uncle completed).

"Jonathan & Ardelis Remington" witnessed the will of Dinah Baker on 9 Aug 1813 at Cranston.

The family farm was on Natick Rd. above Oaklawn. The story is told that he bought the land from the Indians with a peck measure of Spanish milled dollars. Many years later, someone tilling the land found such a coin, probably dropped by the Indians as they left. If true, this would seem to substantiate the story.

The death entry at Warwick City Hall says Jonathan died a widower on 19 Apr 1866 at age 82, of old age. The RI Death Index identifies him as son of Benjamin & Phebe Remington.

The will of Jonathan Remington of Warwick, yeoman, was dated 22 Oct 1860 and proved 14 May 1866. It mentions two sons, Ferdinand and Thomas; one daughter, Sally R; grandson William H.; and Betsey Remington widow of Thomas Remington dec'd. (Warwick book pp 231 - 233)

According to the RI Cemetery Database, the cemetery is located "at 649 Natick Rd. across the wall from CR080."

Jonathan married Ardeliza "Eliza" Rice 19 May 1811, Warwick, RI. Ardeliza (daughter of Thomas Rice and Sarah "Sally" Arnold) was born 21 Mar 1792, Warwick, RI; died 3 May 1844; was buried , Jonathan Remington Lot, CR098, Natick Rd., Cranston, RI. [Group Sheet]

The marriage records calls her Eliza.

She is mentioned as a sister who married Jonathan Remington, in the will of her brother John Rice, dated 31 Oct 1863 and proved 12 June 1865, Warwick.
