  1. 4.  Daniel Remington was born 19 Mar 1779 (son of Thomas Remington, IV and Mary Rice); died 30 Jun 1815; was buried , Pine Grove Cemetery, Coventry, RI.

    Notes:

He is probably the Daniel Remington listed at Coventry, RI, in the 1800 Federal Census.

Daniel married Theodosia Wightman 1798. Theodosia (daughter of Philip Wightman and Mary Mercy Gorton) was born 20 Jan 1780; died 28 Oct 1845; was buried , Pine Grove Cemetery, Coventry, RI. [Group Sheet]

  2. 5.  Theodosia Wightman was born 20 Jan 1780 (daughter of Philip Wightman and Mary Mercy Gorton); died 28 Oct 1845; was buried , Pine Grove Cemetery, Coventry, RI.

    Notes:

Theodosia was most likely named after her maternal grandmother, Theodosia Hopkins.

"Theodocia Remington widow of Daniel Remington, dec" is mentioned in the will of Thomas Holden of Warwick dated 14 Oct 1820.

Several years after Daniel died, she married Jonathan Nichols, widower of her sister Mary.

    Notes:

The Henry Straight Genealogy lists 10 children for this couple, including a son named Remington Straight (also in Beaman's RIVR, NS). I wonder what the Remington connection is in this family, other than a daughter having married a Remington.

In the 1850 Federal Census, David Strait is age 67 and living at West Greenwich, RI. With him is Freelove, age 59. Is she a second wife, or a companion? WG marriages do have a marriage of David Straight & Freelove Potter in 1847, so I am making an assumption that this pertains to this particular David Straight.

In the 1860 Federal Census, he is still at West Greenwich. Phebe Fiske is with him, a housekeeper. She is most likely his sister, Phebe (Straight) Fiske, 1781c - 27 JAN 1871.

David married Phebe Franklin 13 Oct 1800, West Greenwich, RI. Phebe (daughter of John Franklin) was born Abt 1781; died 14 Mar 1838; was buried , Strait-Wood Lot, Pond View Court, West Greenwich, RI. [Group Sheet]

  4. 7.  Phebe Franklin was born Abt 1781 (daughter of John Franklin); died 14 Mar 1838; was buried , Strait-Wood Lot, Pond View Court, West Greenwich, RI.

    Notes:

According to the marriage record, Phebe was d/o of John, of Scituate.

STRAIT, PHEBE (FRANKLIN) 1781c - 14 MAR 1838 WG043 (from RI Cemetery Database)

    Notes:

(If you use any portion of these notes, please give credit to me, Lois Sorensen, Remington researcher, and to other sources as noted herein.)

According to Fuller's book "History of Warwick," Thomas was one of triplets, the other two of whom died. Another source says that it was his father Thomas who was one of triplets. In addition, a transcript of a Remington family Bible says it was his father.

He was a Revolutionary War soldier. According to the manuscript "Revolutionary War -- Burial Place & Service of RI Patriots," located at the Knight Library in Providence, Thomas served as a fifer in Capt. Hawkins' Co., Col. Varnum's Regiment. It also says he died 6 August 1817 at age 70, and was buried in the family lot at the Remington Farm, west side of East Rd., Coventry.

Death notice in the Providence Journal of 11 August 1817: "Judge Thomas Remington, at Coventry, RI, in 70th year." Martha A. Benns gives his date of death as 11 Aug 1817, but this is the date his death notice was in the newspaper.

Some genealogies have this Thomas marrying Mary Wood, also. Thomas Remington, Jr., and Mary Wood were married 7 June 1778 at Warwick, RI. However, if the Revolutionary War Pension files are accurate, these are two different Thomases, since the dates of death are quite different. The other one, who married Mary Wood, died 19 January 1831.

Thomas married Mary Rice 20 Dec 1772, Warwick, RI. Mary (daughter of Holden Rice and Elizabeth Warner) was born Abt 1752; died Aft 18 Mar 1779. [Group Sheet]

  2. 9.  Mary Rice was born Abt 1752 (daughter of Holden Rice and Elizabeth Warner); died Aft 18 Mar 1779.

    Notes:

I found her date of birth in a transcription at the RI Historical Library: Family Bible Records, Vol. 4, p. 41. I am making the assumption that it pertains to this Mary who married Thomas.

    Notes:

The Warwick marriage record says they were married by Thomas Rice, Jr., Justice.

    Children:
    1. John Remington was born 25 Aug 1775, Coventry, RI; died 26 May 1814; was buried , Historical Cemetery 150, Silo Lane, Coventry, RI.

  3. 10.  Philip Wightman was born 13 Jun 1737, Warwick, RI (son of John Wightman and Phebe Havens); died 9 Dec 1788, Warwick, RI.

Philip married Mary Mercy Gorton 27 May 1762. Mary (daughter of Othniel Gorton, Jr. and Theodosia Hopkins) was born Abt 1739, Warwick, RI. [Group Sheet]

  4. 11.  Mary Mercy Gorton was born Abt 1739, Warwick, RI (daughter of Othniel Gorton, Jr. and Theodosia Hopkins).
    Children:
    1. Othniel Gorton Wightman was born 1764; died 18 Nov 1806; was buried , Wightman-Sweet Cemetery, East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick, RI.

  5. 12.  David Straight, Sr. was born Abt 1746; died 26 Sep 1837; was buried , Strait-Wood Lot, Pond View Court, West Greenwich, RI.

David married Mary Aylesworth 12 Feb 1766, West Greenwich, RI. Mary (daughter of David Aylesworth) was born Abt 1744; died 10 Mar 1819; was buried , Strait-Wood Lot, Pond View Court, West Greenwich, RI. [Group Sheet]

  6. 13.  Mary Aylesworth was born Abt 1744 (daughter of David Aylesworth); died 10 Mar 1819; was buried , Strait-Wood Lot, Pond View Court, West Greenwich, RI.

    1. 6. David Straight, Jr. was born 18 Mar 1782, West Greenwich, RI; died 28 Dec 1864, West Greenwich, RI; was buried , Strait-Wood Lot, Pond View Court, West Greenwich, RI.

  7. 14.  John Franklin was born 31 Aug 1742, Scituate, RI (son of Elisha Franklin and Hannah Unknown).

    Notes:

I have made an assumption that this birthdate for John at Scituate belongs to the father of Phebe, who was "of Scituate" when she was married.

    Children:
    1. 7. Phebe Franklin was born Abt 1781; died 14 Mar 1838; was buried , Strait-Wood Lot, Pond View Court, West Greenwich, RI.
