Notes:

Florence's birth record is not in the Coventry town records. The birth record for sister Olive is also omitted. The record for Bertha was not added until 1943. However, I have made an assumption that these three sisters were born in Coventry, as were their older siblings.

Florence's death record at Coventry identifies her parents as William & Lenora.

In the Federal Census of 1910, Florence is age 13, living with her mother and two sisters in Coventry. It just so happens that they are living next door to Oscar & Anna Andrews, Aunt Velna's parents.

Florence married William H. Marcotte Abt 1915. William (son of Hyacinthe Marcotte and Alphonsine "Rosie" Plante) was born 18 Jun 1891, RI; died 5 Nov 1980, West Warwick, RI; was buried , Woodland Cemetery, Washington & Knotty Oak Sts., Coventry, RI. [Group Sheet]

1. Leslie James Marcotte was born 11 Feb 1916, RI; died 5 Feb 2003, Coventry, RI; was buried , Woodland Cemetery, Coventry, RI.
2. Kenneth E. Marcotte was born Abt 1918, RI.
3. John Q. Marcotte was born Abt 1923, Coventry, RI; died 30 Mar 2013, Coventry, RI; was buried , Greenwood Cemetery, Covernty, RI.

In the Federal Census of 1870, William E. Sprague is age 8.

In the Federal Census of 1900, William & Lenora Sprague, ages 39 & 33, are living at Coventry, RI. There are four children in the household: Bertha L., Oliver, Florence, & Everet F. According to census data, William & Lenora have been married 15 years, and Lenora has had 8 children, three of whom are still living. I believe Everett is William's son by a prior marriage.

In the Federal Census of 1910, William is age 50 and divorced, living at Warwick with married son Everett and his wife.

According to the 1900 Federal Census, William was born in August 1861. This also agrees with the 1870 census, in which he is 8 years old.

His middle name is given as Ellery in both of his marriage records at Coventry.

William married Lenora Frances Hopkins 21 Nov 1885, Coventry, Kent Co., RI. Lenora (daughter of Calvin Hopkins and Catherine M. Whitman) was born Feb 1867, West Greenwich, Kent Co., RI; died Aft 15 Apr 1910. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

Lenora's marriage record at Coventry identifies her parents as Calvin & Catherin M. Hopkins. This agrees with the census data, because she is living with them at West Greenwich in the 1870 Federal Census.

In the Federal Census of 1910, Lenora Sprague is age 43 and divorced, living at Coventry, RI. With her are her three daughters: Bertha 20, Olive L. 16, & Florence J. 13. Also there are two boarders, John & Harold Rollinson.

Eldredge's age varies quite a bit in the censuses.

In the 1860 Federal Census, Eldred & Josephine Sprague, ages 28 & 17, are living at Portsmouth, RI.

In 1870 Eldridge N. & Josephine Sprague, ages 48 & 28, are living at West Greenwich, RI. They have four sons. They are living next to Burrill & Dianna Hopkins and family.

In the 1880 Federal Census, Eldredge is 51 and Josephine is 38. They are living at Coventry, RI, with four children in the household.

Eldridge married Josephine Simmons Bef 1 Jun 1860, New Shoreham, Newport Co., RI. Josephine (daughter of Joseph Simmons and Elizabeth Wilkey) was born Abt 1843, Tiverton, Newport Co., RI; died Aft 1 Jun 1880. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

In the Federal Census of 1850, Josephine age 7 and her brother Jephtha age 11 are living in Tiverton, RI, with Edward & Patience Simmons. Edward and Patience may be their paternal grandparents; however, this needs more research to confirm. I think Patience's maiden name is Macomber. In the census they are living next to Benjamin Macomber and family.

Both Jephtha 11 and Josephine 7 (also listed as Joseph 8) are listed with their mother and other siblings in Portsmouth, as well as being listed at Tiverton.

Josephine's mother, Elizabeth, remarried to William H. Chitty in 1847. In the 1850 census Elizabeth and her second husband are living at Portsmouth, RI (indexed under Chitta); by 1860 they have moved to Block Island (indexed as Chittey).

Calvin, along with several of his siblings, is mentioned in the 1 May 1871 will of his grandfather, Lawton (Layton) Hopkins, of West Greenwich.

In the Federal Census of 1870, Calvin & Catherine Hopkins are living at West Greenwich, RI. They have two young daughters, Lenora 3 & Jennie 1. They are living next to Stephen H. & Angeline F. (Hall) Kettle and their son Leonard W. Hall (Kettle); Leonard later married Abbie Whitford. They are also living next to Sheffield Remington.

In the Federal Census of 1880, Calvin and his second wife Adaline M. are living at Coventry, RI. They have five children in the household.

Calvin & Adaline are both descendants of Simeon Whitford.

Calvin married Catherine M. Whitman Abt 1866. Catherine (daughter of Thomas Jefferson Whitman and Catherine "Caty" Hopkins) was born 6 Feb 1839, RI; died 12 Feb 1871; was buried , Historical Cemetery 28, Hopkins Lot, New London Tpke., West Greenwich, RI. [Group Sheet]

Her maiden name is sometimes spelled Wightman, but pronounced Whitman.

Henery Sprague is on the 1830 Federal Census at New Shoreham; his household includes one male 20-30 and one female 20-30. My conclusion is that he was married by then but their first child had not yet been born.

In the 1850 census the family is at New Shoreham, as follows: Henry 44, Frances 36, Eldridge 20, Almina (?) 14, Joshua 13, Aaron 12, Alzador 11, Henry N. 4, & Euphene 2.

In 1860 they are still at New Shoreham. The household is as follows: Henry 54; Fanny 51; Joshua 23; Aaron 21; Almira Mitchell 25; Henry Sprague, Jr. 16; Phebe A. 13; three Mitchell daughters ages 6, 3, & 1 (Alwaday L. ?, Cornelia, & Fanny F.); John F. Dodge 87; Henry Dodge 40; Nelson Dodge 42; and Joseph O. Mitchell 40.

In the 1870 Federal Census, Henry & Fannie Sprague, ages 58 & 54, are living at Old Lyme, New London Co., CT. With them are two of their children: Ann 28 & Henry 24. Also in the household is their married daughter and her family, Almira & Joseph Mitchell and two of their children, Thaddeus & Fanny F.

They are still at Old Lyme in the 1880 census, living with son Aaron and his wife Olive and their children. Next door is son Henry Jr. and his family.

Henry married Frances "Fanny" Dodge Abt 1830. Frances (daughter of John F. Dodge and Mercy Unknown) was born 1809, New Shoreham, Newport Co., RI; died 30 Oct 1889, New Shoreham, Newport Co., RI. [Group Sheet]

Joseph's parents may be Edward Simmons (c 1784) & Patience Macomber (b 29 Dec 1783 Ti, d 2 Aug 1869 Br, d/o Joshua & Patience).

In the Federal Census of 1850, he appears to be the Thomas Whitman, age 46, living in West Greenwich, RI. His wife is in Warwick. Their eldest son Henry is living with Layton & Betsey Hopkins in West Greenwich, next to or with Thomas.

Is she the Catherine Wightman, age 53, in the 1860 census living at West Greenwich with Layton Hopkins? Probably.

She is probably the daughter mentioned as Catherine Whitman in the will of Jonathan Hopkins of West Greenwich dated 18 Sep 1848. This will also mentions land sold to Layton Hopkins. Thus, I have made an assumption that Jonathan is her father.

In the 1850 Federal Census, she appears to be Catharine Whitman age 45, living in Warwick, RI, with some of her children and her married daughter and son-in-law. Her son Henry and husband Thomas are in West Greenwich.

In the Federal Census of 1880, she is probably the Catherine Aylesworth, age 74, living with her son George W. Whitman and family in West Greenwich, RI.
