Asa Brayton

Notes:

Gideon is mentioned in the 1756 Portsmouth will of his paternal grandmother, Mary (Freeborn) Brayton.

I am not sure which Hannah Remington married Gideon. Possibly she was from one of the Remington families on Prudence Island.

Gideon and his family migrated westward. He was Pathmaster for the Town of Stephentown, NY in 1784. He initially settled in Norway, NY, where the first birth was a child of Gideon. Norway has a location called Brayton's Corners (Brayton Family History V. I by Clifford Ross Brayton, Jr.; p 37).

Gideon married Hannah Remington Abt 1765. Hannah was born Abt 1745, RI. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

Hannah may have been a daughter of the Remingtons of Prudence Island, Portsmouth, RI. Very possibly she is a sister of Priscilla Remington who married William Fairbanks.

Thomas married Mary Phillips 17 Jan 1731/32. Mary died 18 Dec 1771, Coventry, RI. [Group Sheet]

I have read that he owned property in East Greenwich at what is now Tarbox Corner, the intersection of Middle Rd. and Carrs Pond Rd. This property was given to his son Gideon and later bought by our ancestor Pasco Whitford in 1751.

Thomas married Mary Freeborn 23 Aug 1704, Portsmouth, RI. Mary (daughter of Gideon Freeborn and Mary Boomer) was born 24 Aug 1679; died Abt Jun 1761, East Greenwich, RI; was buried , Historical Cemetery 52, East Greenwich, RI. [Group Sheet]

Mary's will, dated 27 July 1756, mentions sons Thomas, Gideon, & Francis; daughters Mary Gifford & Hannah Straight; and the following grandchildren: David, Elizabeth, & Mary Gifford; Thomas, William, Henry, John, & Job Straight; Thomas, Daniel, Benjamin, & George Brayton -- sons of Francis; Thomas, Gideon, Joseph, & John Brayton -- sons of Gideon; David, son of Thomas; also grandson Freeborn Brayton.
