In the Federal Census of 1880, Joseph W. & Hannah F. Kent, ages 32 and 28, are living at Franklin, Norfolk Co., MA. They have two children: William R. 4 and Fred A. 2. Joseph is a farmer. According to census data, Joseph's parents were born in RI/CT.

Joseph married Hannah Frances "Fannie" Arnold 14 Feb 1875, Providence, RI. Hannah (daughter of Lyman Arnold and Waity Ann Remington) was born 19 Aug 1851, Exeter, RI; died 5 Sep 1933, Mountain Home, Baxter Co., AR; was buried , Gassville Cemetery in Gassville, Baxter Co., AR. [Group Sheet]

In the Federal Census of 1900, Fannie Kent 48 RI is living at Logan, Baxter Co., AR. Marital status is M. Two daughters are with her: Nellie F. 18 MA and Mae 12 MO. Fannie is a farmer. In the household is a boarder, Heston (Hester?) Newton, 66 OH, widower.

In 1920, Fannie is a widow age 68 living at Whiteville, Baxter Co., AR, with her married daughter Nellie Aylor and family.

At the time of the marriage of William & Sally in Pomfret CT, William was of Ashford, CT.

In the Federal Census of 1840, William Kent and his wife are living at Ashford, CT. They are listed next to James Kent, who may be his father.

Please note that I have placed William as a son of James and Ruby, but this has not been confirmed. There may also have been a brother to William named Cyril/Cyrel W. Kent, formerly of Ashford, who was married to Minerva Peck in Pomfret, CT, in 1839.

In the Federal Census of 1850, the family is living at Cranston, RI: William R. Kent 37 RI laborer, Sally 31 CT, Ellen R. 7 CT, and Joseph W. 2 RI. They are living next to Benjamin N. & Eliza Remington and family.

In 1860 the family is still at Cranston: Wm R. 48 CT jeweller, Sarah 42 CT, Ellen 17 RI, and Joseph 12 RI.

In 1870, the family is at Providence, RI, 9th Ward: William R. Kent 58 RI laborer, Sarah P. 52 CT, and Joseph W. 22 RI clerk in office.

In 1880, he appears to be W. R. Kent age 62 CT, living in Providence.

William married Sarah "Sally" Pike 27 Apr 1840, Pomfret, CT. Sarah was born Abt 1819, CT; died 3 May 1904. [Group Sheet]

In the Federal Census of 1850, Lyman & Waity are living at Bristol, RI. They have three children: Mary A. 4, Albert A. 2, and Sarah E. 10 months. Also in the household are Waity's parents, William & Mary Remington, agew 61 & 59, and sister Betsey G. 23.

Lyman married Waity Ann Remington 14 Feb 1841, Warwick, RI. Waity (daughter of William Remington and Mary Wightman) was born 6 Apr 1820, Exeter, RI; died 8 Mar 1894, Providence, RI; was buried , Arnold Lot, Coventry, RI. [Group Sheet]

In the Federal Census of 1840, James Kent is listed at Ashford, CT. James and his assumed wife are ages 40 - 49, along with another female in the household age 20 - 29, possibly a daughter or servant (see note for Betsey Kent below). Listed next to him is William Kent 20 - 29 and his wife.

In the 1850 Federal Census, James & Ruby Kent are at Ashford, CT, ages 59 & 56. That means James would have been born c 1791. His birthplace is given as CT. His occupation is blacksmith.

James Kent is still at Ashford, CT in 1860, but this time his birthplace is given as RI. He is a farmer, and it appears that he may have remarried, as Mary Kent is with him now.

Notes:

On the membership roll of The Baptist Church in Exeter, 15 June 1845: William (d 1865) & Mary Remington.

There is a William Remington listed for Exeter in the 1830 census, and is most likely this William.

In the 1850 Federal Census, William & Mary Rimmington are living at Bristol, RI, with married daughter Waity Ann Arnold and her family. Another daughter, Betsey, is also in the household.

In the 1860 Federal Census, William is 72 and Mary is 69. They are living at Exeter, Washington Co., RI. Also in the household are George H. Remington, 16 (c1844), and Albert A. Arnold, 12. They are next door to Joseph R. & Hannah Arnold and family. Hannah may be their daughter-in-law, who had married their son Stephen, who died in 1843. Assuming this is true, George H. Remington may be the son of Stephen & Hannah.

The death entry at Providence says he died in his 76th year, and identifies him as "son of Hezekiah."

His gravestone in the Greenwood Cemetery, Coventry, says he "died suddenly."

William married Mary Wightman 13 Apr 1813. Mary (daughter of George Wightman and Waite Sweet) was born 29 Sep 1791; died 28 Apr 1866; was buried , Greenwood Cemetery, Coventry, RI. [Group Sheet]
