  1. 1.  Lois Shephard was born Abt 1770 (daughter of Benjamin Shephard); died Abt 1857, MA.

    Notes:

In her daughter Eliza's baptismal record, Jairus's wife is called Susan. However, in the birth record his wife is mentioned as Lois. I am assuming this was a clerk's or transcriber's error.

Lois Fisher, age 70 b MA (b c1771), is living at Wrentham, Norfolk Co., MA, in the 1850 Federal Census (dwelling 266, #292). This is most likely Lois (Shephard) (Remington) Fisher.

The following notes are adapted from the St. Lawrence County Historical Association Quarterly, Vol. 5, No. 2, April 1960, Canton, NY, available through PERSI:

After the death of Jarius, his wife moved into a house on DeKalb Rd. Not long after this, her only son Hiram died, and then she removed to Wrentham, MA, which had likely been her former home. There she remarried to David Fisher, a banker, with whom she lived eight years. Mrs. Fisher died at age 87, about 1857, in Massachusetts. Her maiden name was Lois Shepard, daughter of Benjamin Shepard of Wrentham, MA. Mr. Shepard owned the first cotton factory in America and he was also a commissary under General Washington, supplying him with provisions for the army.

This Benjamin Shepard had three sons -- George, Silas, & Benjamin; his daughters were Mrs. Deuce, Mrs. Rev. Fisk, Mrs. Nelson, & Mrs. Jairus Remington.

Mrs. Remington had an uncle who was taken prisoner by the Indians in Vermont and brought to Ogdensburg when it was an Indian village and without a single white inhabitant. He was treated kindly and after eight years was restored to his family.

Lois married Jairus Remington 1 Feb 1795, Wrentham, Norfolk Co., MA. Jairus (son of Thomas Remington and Rachel Stowell) was born 2 Mar 1767, Abington, MA; died Bef Oct 1828, Huevelton, NY. [Group Sheet]

    Children:
    1. Eliza Remington was born 28 Jul 1798, Putney, VT; died Between 1867 and 1868.
    2. Hiram Remington was born Abt 1800, VT; died Bef Oct 1828.

Lois married David Fisher Abt Oct 1828, Wrentham, Norfolk Co., MA. David died Abt 1836. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

The marriage announcement was published in the Columbian Centinel on 18 Oct 1828. I am not sure exactly when the wedding took place.
