John married Abigail Remington 15 Feb 1704/05, Jamestown, RI. Abigail (daughter of Daniel Remington and Sarah Parker) was born Abt 26 Mar 1686, Jamestown, RI; died 6 Mar 1763. [Group Sheet]

Alden G. Beaman gives her date of birth as 3 March 1686, as does the book "Descendants of Roger Williams," Book III, Sayles Line, p. 24. The exact date is not legible in the original Jamestown records (p. 14). It reads: "Abigail Remington daughter of Daniel born March 1686."

Abigail Remington, daughter of Daniel Remington, is mentioned as a kinswoman of Phebe Arnold in the 1697 will of Oliver Arnold of "Conenicut Island." Oliver's wife, Phebe (Cooke) Arnold, was Abigail's great aunt, sister of her maternal grandmother, Sarah (Cooke) Parker.

Some genealogies use the date of death, 6 Mar 1763, for another Abigail Remington, the one who married William Gardiner.

I am taking the liberty of assuming that this marriage in the Jamestown vital records belongs to these two individuals. The time frame and the locale fit them both.

The marriage record at Jamestown reads: "John Carr & Abigail Remington both of this town" were married "ye 15 of 12th month 1704/05 by John Weeden, Warden." (At this time the 12th month was February and the 1st month was March. Dates from January through March used a split year.)

John married Susannah Nichols 9 Jun 1709. Susannah (daughter of Thomas Nichols and Mercy Reynolds) was born 9 May 1690, East Greenwich, Kent Co., RI. [Group Sheet]

Caleb married Deborah Sayles Abt 1680. Deborah (daughter of John SAYLES, Jr. and Mary WILLIAMS) was born Abt 1659, Jamestown, RI; died Abt 1701, Jamestown, RI. [Group Sheet]

Sarah, under 18 daughter of Peter & Sarah (Cook ?) Parker, was mentioned in the 3 Oct 1727 Portsmouth will of Thomas Cook. It was her sister Penelope who married Daniel's brother Stephen.

According to "The History of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, 1677-1960, With Related Genealogy" by Martha R. McPartland, Giles Pierce was born in 1651, probably in Portsmouth . . . he was made a freeman of Portsmouth in 1673 and in 1677 was granted land in East Greenwich . . . He served as Deputy, Moderator, and member of the Town Council. The first town meeting was held in his home in 1677.

The surname was spelled variously as Peirce, Pierce, or Pearce.

The Peirce Project web site has his year of birth as 1649.

Giles married Elizabeth HALL 13 Apr 1676, East Greenwich, RI. Elizabeth (daughter of William HALL, Jr. and Mary THOMAS) was born 1653, Portsmouth, RI; died 19 Nov 1698, East Greenwich, RI. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

The will of Thomas Nichols of East Greenwich is dated 7 Dec 1738 and proved 30 Nov 1745. It mentions sons James, and Thomas dec'd; dtr Frances Peirce, widow; other daughters not named; son-in-law Giles Peirce; son-in-law Joseph Edmunds of Warwick; grandson Thomas Edmunds; other family members.

I have made an assumption that he is the Thomas Nichols born to Thomas & Hannah Nichols, 6 Aug 1660 recorded at North Kingstown. The time period is right; this seems to be confirmed by John Osborne Austin's "Genealogical Dictionary of RI" p 138.

Thomas married Mercy Reynolds Abt 1684. Mercy (daughter of James Reynolds and Deborah Unknown) was born 22 Dec 1664. [Group Sheet]

Her maiden name as Reynolds seems to be confirmed by John Osborne Austin's "Genealogical Dictionary of RI" p 138, which says she is d/o James & Devorah Reynolds; also she is identified as Mercy Reynolds in "Representative Men and Old Families of Rhode Island" p 1814.

The children's birth are registered at East Greenwich to Thomas & Mercy Nichols.
