  1. 1.  Israel Remington was born 18 Sep 1793, Warwick, RI (son of Samuel Remington and Almy Arnold); died 26 May 1846, Manlius, Onondaga, NY.

    Notes:

The gravestone says he was age 46, which -- if correct -- would make his year of birth 1800.

From "Early Settlers and Development of the Town of Manlius," Dwight H. Bruce (ed.), Onondaga's Centennial. Boston History Co., 1896, Vol. I, pp. 769-801; 805-806 (transcribed at NYGenweb, Onondaga Co.:

  1. 2.  Samuel Remington was born Abt 1771 (son of Ruel Remington and Robie Rice); died Aft Oct 1805.

    Notes:

He may be the Samuel Remmington listed for Coventry, RI, in the 1800 Federal Census. The household includes 4 young boys and one young girl. He is not listed at Warwick.

He and Almy were divorced in 1805. See marriage notes.

Samuel married Almy Arnold 17 Jul 1791, Warwick, RI; divorced October 1805, Warwick, RI. Almy (daughter of Thomas Arnold and Frances Haynes) was born Abt 27 Oct 1770, Warwick, RI; died 17 Oct 1841, Manlius, Onondaga, NY; was buried , Manlius Village Cemetery, Manlius, NY. [Group Sheet]

  2. 3.  Almy Arnold was born Abt 27 Oct 1770, Warwick, RI (daughter of Thomas Arnold and Frances Haynes); died 17 Oct 1841, Manlius, Onondaga, NY; was buried , Manlius Village Cemetery, Manlius, NY.

    Notes:

Some time after the divorce in 1805, Almy Remington settled in Manlius, NY, probably at least by 1827, when some of the family names appear on a church membership list. (see notes for her son Israel Remignton).

    Notes:

Unfortunately, this couple was divorced in 1805. The following notes are from "Elder John Gorton and the Six Principle Baptist Church of East Greenwich, RI" by Cherry Fletcher Bamberg, pub. RI Genealogical Society, p. 370:

"Samuel & Almy registered the births of six children at Warwick 1791-1801 . . . 'Amey' Remington petitioned for divorce in Oct. 1805, alleging that her husband 'has left her Bed and has treated her with marked aversion and even contempt' after he became involved in an adulterous affair . . . They agreed that Samuel was to have custody of all but the youngest child . . . John Remington was less than six months old at the time of the divorce . . . 'Amey Remington' was living at Manlius, Onondaga Co., NY, on 18 Jan 1836 when she sold land inherited from Josiah Arnold."

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Ruel Remington was born Abt 1736, Warwick, RI (son of Daniel Remington, Sr. and Ann Gorton); died Aft 1790.

    Notes:

Ruel's parentage has never been proven, but various reliable sources have placed him in this family group. (This needs more research to confirm.)

During the Revolutionary War, Ruel served in Captain Daniel Jenkes's Company, as well as several short enlistments. He was at Warwick, able to bear arms, in the 1777 military census.

He was also a private in Col. Elliott's Regiment in 1776, pay due 26 pounds, 11 shillings, 5 pence.

The name is also spelled Reuel. It is a Bible name meaning "the shepherd" or "friend of God" or "God is his friend." (for more information see: http://www.reference-guides.com/isbe/R/REUEL/e )

Ruel married Robie Rice Abt 1754. Robie (daughter of Thomas Rice and Mary Holden) was born 27 Mar 1736, Warwick, RI; died Aft 1779. [Group Sheet]

    7. 2. Samuel Remington was born Abt 1771; died Aft Oct 1805.
    8. Josiah Remington was born Abt 1773.

  3. 6.  Thomas Arnold was born 1740, Warwick, RI (son of Israel Arnold, III and Mary Rhodes); died Abt Sep 1813, Warwick, RI.

    Notes:

I don't know whether Thomas belongs to these parents, but I am placing him here temporarily, pending further research. It is very possible that he belongs here, because his daughter named two sons Israel and Arnold; and, he is in the right time frame. However, he isn't mentioned in the will of Israel.

The book "Descendants of Roger Williams" Book III, Sayles Line, p. 305 & 306, shows the Thomas who married Frances Haynes as a son of William & Phebe (Stafford) Arnold. However, that Thomas seems quite clearly to be the one who married Sarah Pierce and is buried in East Greenwich. His dates are 26 Oct 1740 - 8 May 1821.

The will of Thomas Arnold, of Warwick, yeoman alias cooper, is dated 15 June 1812 and proved 21 Sep 1813. It mentions wife Frances; sons Josiah, Hanes, Richard, Benedict, and Thomas; daughters Amey Remington, Caty Hathaway, and Nancy Arnold single.

Thomas married Frances Haynes 1 Jun 1761, Warwick, RI. Frances (daughter of Josiah Haynes and Ann Low) was born 1736. [Group Sheet]

  4. 7.  Frances Haynes was born 1736 (daughter of Josiah Haynes and Ann Low).

    2. Haynes Arnold
    3. Richard Arnold
    4. Benedict Arnold

    8. 3. Almy Arnold was born Abt 27 Oct 1770, Warwick, RI; died 17 Oct 1841, Manlius, Onondaga, NY; was buried , Manlius Village Cemetery, Manlius, NY.

  1. 8.  Daniel Remington, Sr. was born Abt 1692, Portsmouth or Warwick, RI (son of Thomas REMINGTON, I and Mary ALLEN); died Abt 16 Sep 1786, Warwick, RI; was buried 18 Sep 1786, Warwick, RI.

    Notes:

Daniel Remington was ensign of Militia, 2nd Company for Warwick, in 1730 - 1733. Very likely it was this Daniel.

Warwick Land Evidence, dated 22 Nov 1736: Stephen Remington of Providence, mariner, sold to Jonathan Remington of East Greenwich, mariner, one lot in Chippowinoxit, Warwick, Lot #16, one and one-half acres; signed by Stephen Remington, witnessed by Dan Remington. (These three were brothers.)

He is probably the Daniel Remington listed for Warwick in the 1774 RI Census.

In the book "Remington Family" Martha A. Benns has Daniel's date of birth as 18 October 1681, but this is too early because he is said to be under 21 in his father's will dated 1710. Cherry Fletcher Bamberg has the year as 1689.
