    In the 1880 Federal Census, George & Henry are farmers in Indianola, Red Willow, NE. Their mother Elizabeth, a widow age 56, is living there with them.

    Los Angeles Times - Sep 21, 1950 - "RETIRED RANCHER DIES - ARCADIA, Sept. 20 - Henry C. Remington, 92, a retired livestock rancher, a resident here for 22 years, died today at his home. He leaves his widow Lillian, and three daughters, Miss Bernice Remington and Mrs. Mildred L. Mirchand of Arcadia, and Mrs. Edna A. Bogle of Monrovia."

    In the 1920 Federal Census, Henry C. & Lillian Remington, ages 61 & 50, are living at Fort Collins, Larimer Co., CO. In the household are two of their daughters, Bernice, 19, & Mildred, 11.

    In the 1930 Federal Census, Henry C. & Lillian E. Remington, ages 71 & 61, are living at Pasadena, Los Angeles Co., CA. With them is daughter Bernice, 29, who is single. According to census data, Henry was married at age 29 and Lillian at age 18. Lillian's parents were born in PA & CT; Henry's parents were both born in MA.

    Notes:

    In the 1860 Federal Census, Austin & Elizabeth are at Savoy, Berkshire Co., MA. Their two sons are there, as well as an orphaned cousin, David T. Remington. Austin's mother, Laura Remington, is next door.

    In June 1858 Austin became a member of the Savoy Baptist Church; in 1859 he became a deacon and the church treasurer. In 1861 he became ill and asked to be relieved of his duties. Austin died two years later of consumption (see Lois Remington Smith's manuscript, "Moses Stanford, Minuteman" for more information on this family).

    Austin & Elizabeth had an infant son who died 18 Mar 1855 ("A Remington Family History" by Lois Remington Smith, p. E-2).

    Notes:

    After Austin's death, Elizabeth remained in Massachusetts, trying to make a living for herself and two young sons. In the fall of 1878 they joined a partly of 40 pioneers and moved to Nebraska, where they built a new homestead and her sons eventually married and raised families.     In the 1880 Federal Census, Elizabeth is a widow age 56, living in Indianola, Red Willow, NE, with her two single sons, George & Henry, who are farmers.

    Elizabeth died in 1907 at the home of her son Henry.

  1. 4.  Aaron Remington was born 4 Oct 1795, Cummington, MA (son of Benjamin Remington and Sarah "Sally" Seamans); died 3 Feb 1859, Pittsfield, MA; was buried , Deming Cemetery, Savoy, MA.

    Notes:

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Aaron and his family are living in Savoy, Berkshire, MA. With them is his elderly father, Benjamin. Brother James is next door with his family. Also nearby in the same town is (probable) brother Benjamin and his family. Another neighboring family is that of Amos Deming, possibly related to Laura.

    Aaron was appointed guardian for the orphaned children of his brother Reuben.

    Aaron and his two eldest sons served as deacons at the Baptist Church in Savoy. His brother-in-law, Deacon Amos Deming, served as pastor for 14 years (for more information on this family group, see "A Remington Family History" compiled by Lois Remington Smith).

    According to the death record, Deacon Aaron Remington died at age 63 of typhoid fever. His father died later that year at age 94. Their death records are on the same page of the Savoy, MA, death book.

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Benjamin is age 88 and living with his son Aaron and family in Savoy, Berkshire, MA. Next door is his son James and family. (Probable) son Benjamin and his family are nearby, too.

    According to Boyd Scott Remington's chart, Ben's parents lived in Cummington, MA. That is why I think his wife is Sarah Seamans, based on the marriage data. Otherwise, she married a different Benj. Remington.

    The death record at Savoy, MA, says Mr. Benjamin Remington died of old age at 94y 4m 9d.
