    Notes:

I am not sure that James was a son of Henry & Judith. This came from a family tree at Rootsweb and must be researched.

James married Hannah Sweet 25 Feb 1748/49. Hannah (daughter of Henry Sweet and Mary Andrew) was born 8 Feb 1711/12, East Greenwich, Kent Co., RI. [Group Sheet]

  2. 5.  Hannah Sweet was born 8 Feb 1711/12, East Greenwich, Kent Co., RI (daughter of Henry Sweet and Mary Andrew).

    Notes:

The marriage record identifies her as Hannah Sweet, daughter of Henry of East Greenwich.

I am not sure that this birth date is the one for this Hannah, but the location and father's name agree, and her age matches James's.

Apparently she already had a daughter, Waite Sweet, who later married her husband's son, Uriah Matteson, in 1764. The bride and groom must have been step-siblings.

    Notes:

    From a post-it note at Rootsweb's Worldconnect:
An article which appeared in Vol. 52, pp. 18-20 of The American Genealogist, titled "Mary Andrew, wife of Henry Sweet" by Harriet Woodbury Hodge put to rest the myth that her last name was Griffen. It was believed she was because they named a child Griffen, however the author sites several deeds which clarify the relationship. She was the daughter of John Andrew and his first wife who remains as an Unknown. The kinship is clarified by North Kingstown deed 2:2ll F: On 10 June 1713 when Henry Sweet, wife Mary with William Andrews and wife Ann and Mary (Ridgely) Andrews, widow, conveyed to William Spencer land formerly of John Andrews who died intestate in Newport, "we being his said heirs."

See a text of this deed in RI Genealogical Register Vol 11 p 342 on Family Tree Maker CD.

    Notes:

The will of James Greene of Coventry, yeoman, was dated 18 June 1770 and proved 22 June 1771. It mentions his wife Rebeckah, and the following children: Nathaniel, John, Isaac, James, Wardel, Charles, Othniel (dec'd), Patience Andrew, Rebeckah Andrew, & Jane Andrew; grandchildren James, s/o Wardel; Philip & Wardel, (prob. also) s/o Wardel; Job, s/o Charles; Charles & Othniel, brothers and (prob. also) s/o Charles; William & Othniel, s/o Othniel (dec'd); Mary, d/o Othniel (dec'd); James, s/o Rebeckah Andrew; Almy Johnson; James & Abigail Greene, c/o Isaac.

There is no explanation for who Almy's parents are, but the will of Patience Andrew, James's daughter, also mentions Amey Johnson, daughter of Elkanah Johnson. Apparently one of James's daughters had a daughter Amey by Elkanah Johnson.

"James lived at Maroon Swamp which is the area of modern day Coventry Center north of Harkney Hill. His wife Rebecca was the daughter of Nathaniel Cahoone, who was a resident of Warwick, R.I. in the early 1700
