He was greatly interested in history, biography, and genealogy and nearly all of the known early history of the family has been gathered from his memoranda."

Asa married Lucy Fuller 24 Nov 1816. Lucy (daughter of Ebenezer Fuller and Abigail Peck) was born 26 Aug 1793; died 26 Sep 1863, Providence, RI; was buried , Swan Point Cemetery, Blackstone Blvd., Providence, RI. [Group Sheet]

He may have been Asa Armington, who also had married Mercy Remington, Bathiah's sister.

"Asa Armington, of Rehoboth, yeoman" is mentioned in the will of Enoch Remington as his son-in-law. As both sisters married an Armington, this may have been the same individual, or just brothers or cousins.

Asa married Bethiah Remington 3 Oct 1790. Bethiah (daughter of Enoch Remington, I and Molly Watson) was born Abt 1770, RI; died 16 Sep 1835; was buried , Newman Cemetery, Pawtucket Ave., East Providence, RI. [Group Sheet]

Bathiah may have married Asa Armington, her sister's widower. She is called Bathiah Armington in her father's will.

"The Chaffee Genealogy" says Joseph died 15 August 1817 at Rehoboth, MA.

According to "The Armington Family in America," Joseph & Esther lived and raised their family at Kettle Point on the east shore of the Providence River in that part of Rehoboth which was afterwards included in the town of Seekonk and is now the town of East Providence.

Joseph belonged to a company of provincial troops under the leadership of Captain Peck of Barrington. Joseph enlisted as an orderly sergeant but performed the duties of ensign. In 1755 they were encamped at Crown Point on Lake George, when a great earthquake struck.

Captain Peck lived on a farm which afterwards was owned by Enoch Remington, maternal grandfather of Asa W. Armington.

"Joseph Armenton" also was a soldier in the Revolutionary War.

Joseph married Esther Walker Abt 1761. Esther (daughter of Daniel Walker and Hannah Bearsto) was born 20 Nov 1745, Rehoboth, MA; died 18 Apr 1840, Rehoboth, MA; was buried , Newman Cemetery, Pawtucket Ave., East Providence, RI. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

The RI Cemetery Database has her birth year as c. 1750, and her year of death as 1846. This birth year is proabably based on her age at death. "The Armington Family in America" says she died 18 April 1840 in Seekonk, MA, at age 96, and that would compute to about 1745/6 as the year of birth. I believe this latter date is more realistic, based on the birth date of her first child.

Notes:

The New England Historical & Genealogical Register 22, 354 says "Enoch was son of Thomas, of John of Suffolk."

The will of Micah Brown dated 4 Jan 1747/48 mentions him as "kinsman Enoch Remington." Perhaps they were cousins? (see next note)

On 15 Mar 1742/43, James Brown of Barrington was appointed to be guardian of Enoch Remington, a minor over 14 years of age, son of Thomas Remington of Barrington.

"Enock Remington" was baptized at the Newman Congregational Church, Seekonk (or East Providence) in May 1729. (see Arnold's VRs for East Providence, Church Records, p. 519) He was also a soldier in the Revolutionary War.

Boyd Scott Remington gives his dates as 1735 - 1798 (no sources). Also, he has his parents as John & Susanna of Jamestown, which is almost certainly incorrect.

The will of Enoch Remington of Barrington, RI, gentleman, was dated 21 Nov 1807, and proved 1 July 1811. In mentions his wife Molly, and several children, grandchildren, and other relatives as follows: son Enoch dec'd., leaving widow Ruth; daughters Molly Niall, Lydia Bowen, Bathiah Armington, and Mercy Armington dec'd; son-in-law Asa Armington of Rehoboth, yeoman; grandsons Samuel Walker (?) Remington & Enoch Remington, sons of Enoch dec.'d.; granddaughter Ruth Armington, daughter of Enoch dec'd.; and grandson Joseph Armington, son of Mercy dec'd. The will was witnessed by Josiah Humphrey, Jr., Benjamin Niall, & Elisha Humphrey.

Enoch married Molly Watson Abt 1756. Molly (daughter of Matthew Watson, II and Bethiah Reed) was born 5 Mar 1734/35; died 10 Oct 1820, East Providence or Barrington, RI; was buried , Prince's Hill Burial Ground, County Rd., Barrington, RI. [Group Sheet]
