William "Willy" Lincoln Remington

According to Michael Edward Remington's genealogy, William Lincoln Remington was born 3 Aug 1878. However, the 1900 Federal Census gives his birth date as Aug 1875. In the 1880 Federal Census, William's age is given as 3, which would place his birth year as c1876/77. Therefore, a birth year of 1875/76 seems more likely, since his younger brother Arthur was probably born in 1877 or 1878 (at the latest). This needs more research to confirm.

In 1910 William L. 33 & Elizabeth A. Remington 35 are living in Manchester, NH, with his parents and other family members.

William married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Agnes Blakeley 15 Apr 1905, Grace Parish, Manchester, NH. Elizabeth (daughter of William R. Blakeley and Emma M. Currier) was born 19 Apr 1874, Allenstown, NH; died 13 Nov 1910, Manchester, NH. [Group Sheet]

In the 1880 Federal Census, William P. & Julia Remington are living at Pawtucket, Providence Co., RI. They have four children: Etta B. 8, Alice M. 6, William L. 3, & Arthur E. 2.

In the 1900 Federal Census, the family is still living in Pawtucket, RI, at 44 Newberry St. William is 53, Julia is 47, Alice is 26, William is 24, and Arthur is 22. Their birth months and years are given, also.

In the 1910 Federal Census, William P., Julia A., and the two sons and daughters-in-law, as well as three grandchildren, are living together at Manchester, Hillsborough Co., NH.

In 1930 the family is at Manchester, NH, as follows (all surname Remington): Noris 51 RI, Laverna 42 MA, Walter 24 NH, Harold 22 NH, William J. 4 and 3/12 NH (says son but he is their grandson), Penn 82 MA (father), and Julia 82 MA (mother).

Ancestry.com's Pawtucket City Directories 1890-1892 lists the following: "William P. Remington, S. B. Havens & Co.'s, driver, house 20 Elm." This is undoubtedly William Penn Remington (see his occupation in the 1880 census). His employer was S. B. Havens & Co., Restaurant, Caterers and Confectioners, 176 Main Street. This was "the largest catering, confectionery and restaurant business in Pawtucket" [RI].

William married Julia Ann Merrill 1871. Julia (daughter of Stillman J. Merrill and Sophronia Harriman) was born 26 Feb 1853, Goffstown, NH; died 27 Sep 1932, NH. [Group Sheet]

In the 1850 Federal Census, William & Emily are living at Blackstone, Worcester Co., MA. They have one son, William P., 3.

In the 1860 Federal census, William & Emily are ages 44 & 43, living at Burrillville, Providence Co., RI. With them are William J. (P?) Remington 13, and Walter S. Remington, 1.

In the 1870 Federal Census, William & Emily are ages 54 & 53, still living at Burrillville. William P. is 23 and Walter S. is 11. They are next door to Eddy & Emily Keach. Possibly Eddy is a brother of Emily Remington. This needs more research.

John's death record at Blackstone, MA, names his parents as Benedict and Ruth Remington.

In the 1830 Federal Census, John was residing at Mendon, Worcester County, MA.

In the 1850 Federal Census, the family is at Blackstone, Worcester Co., MA. In the household are John 56, Hannah 57, Ann C. 33, Ruth 30, Eunice S. 26, Mary C. 23, & John Jr. 18. All of the children were born in MA, as was their father. Also living there is Horace Parmenter, 27 CT. Is he a relative?

In 1860 they are still at Blackstone. The family group consists of the following: John 67, Hannah 68, Mary 34, Mason DeWitt (Mason D. White) 45, Sarah (his wife) 32, and their three young children -- Lizzie 5, Mason W. 2, & Evaline 6 mos.

John married Hannah S. Remington 3 Apr 1815, Mendon, MA. Hannah (daughter of Tiddeman H. Remington and Elizabeth Sheffield) was born 14 Jan 1792, Jamestown, RI; died 27 Dec 1875, Blackstone, MA. [Group Sheet]

According to her death record, Hannah died at age 83 y 11 m 17 d, cause of death was "old age." It ways she was a widow, died in Blackstone, and was born in Jamestown, RI. Her parents are given as Tideman & Elizabeth Remington. In the 1870 Federal Census, Hannah Remington is age 78, widowed, and living at Blackstone, MA, with her daughter Sarah and family. Sarah & Mason DeWitt have four children in the household: Lizzie 15, Warren W. 12, Eva 10, & George B. 7.
