    In the 1880 Federal Census, Sheldon & Elmira are living at Bluff Creek, Monroe Co., Iowa, with their four children.

    In the 1900 Federal Census, Sheldon & Elmira D. Remington are ages 51 & 49, living at Rusco, Buffalo Co., NE. Living with them are three of their children: Frederick O., Calvin T., & Susie. According to census data, Sheldon & Elmira have been married 31 years, and have had 9 children, 7 of whom are still living. Son Charles and his wife Minnie are living at Divide, Buffalo Co, NE.

He was born and raised to manhood on the old Remington farm about five miles west of Oskaloosa.     Notes:

    According to the 1880 Federal Census data, Elmira's parents were both born in Kentucky. The 1900 census says they were born in TN & IL, while the 1910 census says her parents were born in KY & IL (although this information is on the line for her husband's name; the data was switched). The 1920 census says her parents were both born in IL.

    In 1920, Elmira D. Remington is age 71 and widowed, living with her son Frederick O. Remington and his three sons at Kearney, Buffalo Co., NE.

    Notes:

    In the 1850 Federal Census, Ezekiel and Elizabeth are living at Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co., Iowa, with their eight children. They are still there in 1860. In the meantime, the three oldest children have left the home, but three younger ones have been added to the family. The children in the household are: Thompson, Elizabeth, Lucy, Henrietta, Sheldon, Highly, Benjamin, & Aaron.

    In the 1870 Federal Census, the family is still at Oskaloosa. Son Sheldon, age 21, is married and living next door.

    In 1880 Ezekiel & Elizabeth, ages 73 and 70, are still living at (West) Oskaloosa, and in the household is their son Aaron C., age 25. Also with them is Alice Delong, 19, a grandchild, as well as two other individuals -- William Jones, a farm laborer, and Minnie Prindle, a servant girl. Nearby is son Benjamin and family.

    According to the 1880 census data, Ezekiel had heart disease. Apparently he died not long after the census was taken.
