In 1881, Robert & Sarah, ages 49 & 45, are living at 77 Sutton Rd., Mansfield. They have 6 children in the household. In 1891 Robert is age 59, a widower, living at 47 Stockwell Gate, Mansfield. Five of his children, all young adults, are in the household. In 1901 he is a widower age 70, living at 62 Nottingham Rd., Mansfield. With him are four adult daughters: Mary A. 42, Elizabeth 37, Ellen 35, & Ada 27.

Robert married Sarah Unknown Abt 1856. Sarah was born Abt 1836, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England; died Bef Apr 1891. [Group Sheet]

In the 1841 census, Robert is living with his parents at 10 Bancroft Lane, Mansfield. It appears that five of his children are in the household, along with a possible wife, Ann -- however, further research suggests that Ann is his sister and that one of the children, Charles, is an infant belonging to Ann.

By 1861 he has remarried and has a wife named Eliza, plus four more children. They are living at 38 Club Square, Mansfield.

Robert married Eliza Radford 25 Dec 1817, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England. Eliza was born Abt 1807, Nottinghamshire, England; died Bef Apr 1841. [Group Sheet]

According to the church record, Gilbert was born on Tuesday, 8th Apr 1777, and baptized on aThursday, 11th July 1777.

(Note from Alan Battams: For all their children christened up to 1817, father Gilbert was a stockinger, mother Elizabeth, of Stockwell Gate. For children after 1817, father Gilbert was a stockinger, mother Elizabeth, of Bancroft Lane.)

In the 1841 census, Gilbert & Elizabeth are living at 10 Bancroft Lane. Also in the household are sons Robert & Samuel, as well as Robert's wife Ann and their five children: George, Robert, Harriet, Edward, & Charles. Nearby, at 11 & 12 Bancroft, are living two other sons, John & Gilbert, and their families.

In 1851, Gilbert is not there but Elizabeth Slack is age 73, still on Bancroft Lane, a pauper/winder.

In the 1813 Rate Book for Mansfield, p. 62, a Gilbert Slack living in Ratcliffe Gate paid 1/10 - 1/2 pence (one shilling ten and a half pence). The reference could refer to this particular Gilbert, our ancestor.

Gilbert married Elizabeth BLEAR 20 Apr 1797, St. Peter's, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England. Elizabeth was born Abt 1776, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England; died Aft Apr 1851. [Group Sheet]

Gilbert Slack (signed) of this parish aged 20 bach and Elizabeth Blear (made mark) aged 20 spinster married in this church by banns on 20th April 1797 by John Durham Vicar in the presence of Richard Endersby and Josh Lockwood (he was probably the parish clerk).
