Charlotte Remington

Notes:

The 1900 census says Charlotte was born in NY, but the 1910 census says ND (written out as North Dakota).

She is a public school teacher.

I have made an assumption that the following death info in the SSDI is for this Charlotte:

Notes:

The 1900 Federal Census says Frederick was born in Oct 1850, but it had to be 1849, because he was in the 1850 census.

In 1900, Fred H. & Cora Remington are living at 158 Knapp Milwaukee, Milwaukee Co., WI, with their three living children (according to the census data, she has had one child that is no longer living).

Frederick married Cora Unknown Abt 1881. Cora was born Jul 1858, NY; died Aft Apr 1910. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

The 1900 Federal Census appears to say that Cora was born in Jul 1868, but that must not be correct, because she was married c1881. Her age is 41, but that is crossed out and 31 is lightly written in above that. It also says she has been married 19 years, and she could not have been married at age 12! So, I have entered her date of birth as Jul 1858, based on the age 41 in 1900. This agrees with her age given as 51 in 1910.

In the 1910 Federal Census, Cora M. Remington, widow, and two of her children, Charlotte & Horace W., are living on Van Buren St., Milwaukee, WI.

"At an adjourned meeting of the trustees held May 7, 1842, J. V. H. Clark was chosen clerk; Abner Duell, John Merritt, fire wardens; Joseph Smith, treasurer; William Warner, collector; Lyman Benson, pound master, and it was voted "that his yard be a pound for the village." The fire company was placed on a more efficient basis by the appointment of twenty members, among whom were Jonathan G. Rowling, N. N. Phillips, Hiram Remington, Stephen V. Barnes, E. E. May, A. H. Jerome, H. D. June, Israel Remington, Jonas P. Ellis, and William T. Washburn. The name of the company was Torrent No. 1. A reorganization took place in April, 1877, and a new engine purchased. Associated with the fire company was Eagle Hose Company."

In the 1870 and 1880 Federal Censuses, Hiram & Margaret Remington and family are living at Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY. Their six living children are with them in both censuses. In 1880, Margaret's mother, P. H. Tanner, age 81, is also in the household.

In the 1900 census, Hiram is 84 and Margaret is 76. They are still at Watertown, NY. With them are daughters Sophia, 49; Mary M., 45; and Clara, 35.

Hiram married Margaret S. Tanner Abt 1848. Margaret (daughter of Samuel Tanner and Prudentia Hitchcock) was born Jun 1823, NY; died Aft 1 Jun 1900. [Group Sheet]

In the 1850 Federal Census, "Elustrious" & Eunice are living at Manlius, Onondaga, NY, with three of their children, including Nancy Harrington and her daughter. In 1870 he is retired. Illustrious died at age 92.
