    In the 1880 census, he is an infant with no name. However, he is Eugene A. in 1900. In both censuses, his date of birth is noted as Mar 1880.

    The "George Aldrich Genealogy" p. 16 has his date of birth as 7 Mar 1880.

    Eugene married Jennie F. Unknown Abt 1907. Jennie was born 1890. [Group Sheet]

    In 1880, Warren & Ellen Smart are living at Woonsocket, RI, not far from Ellen's mother Martha Aldrich. The Smarts have a daughter, 3, and an infant son, 3 months.

    In the 1900 Federal Census, Ellen F. Smart is living at 243 Orchard St., Woonsocket, RI. The census shows that she is a widow age 45, but she is really 55. Her birthday is given as Feb 1855. Maybe the census taker got the years confused. With her are her two children, Florence M. 23, and Eugene A. 20.

Also in the household are the following family members: Martha's mother, Martha Remington, 79; Martha's sister Mahala Paine, 35; another sister Ann E. Follett, 45, and her two children, William 16 & Lucia A. 14.

    In 1860 Robert & Martha, ages 49 & 48, are still at Smithfield. Orville L. is 21, and Ellen L. is 15.

    Robert married Martha M. Remington 5 May 1836, Smithfield, Providence Co., RI. Martha (daughter of Caleb Remington and Martha Mowry) was born Between 1812 and 1813, RI; died 19 Jul 1896; was buried , Old Town Burial Ground, Great Road, North Smithfield, RI. [Group Sheet]

    In the 1870 Federal Census, Martha Aldrich is age 57 and "keeping house" at Smithfield, RI. With her is daughter Ellen F., age 24, and a school teacher, Dwight Adams, 50.

    In 1880, Martha Aldrich is age 68, widowed, and living at Woonsocket, RI. She is living alone. Nearby is daughter Ellen Smart and her family.

    We have not yet been able to figure out who Caleb's parents were. According to his children's data in the 1880 census, he was born in RI.

    This household apprears to be listed in the 1820 census at Smithfield, RI, with Caleb Remington as head of family; but no male of his age is included in the data. Here are the totals: 2 free white males under 10, 1 free white male 10-16 (Lyman?), 2 free white females under 10 (Martha & Mahala?), 2 free white females 16-26 (Zilpha & Ann Eliza?), and 1 free white female 26-45 (wife Martha). Where is Caleb, and who are the two young males?
