    Notes:

    The book "Little Compton Families" by B. F. Wilbour p. 410 says that this John Manchester married first Nancy, then Lucy. I have not been able to verify this with certainty, as there were several John Manchesters in Tiverton around this time. However, for the present I have attached Nancy and Lucy as his two wives.

    A query posted on the Manchester mailing list at rootsweb.com gives John & Lucy's marriage date as 18 March 1804, Tiverton, no source noted.

    It appears that this John Manchester may very well be our ancestor, based on the opinion of genealogist John Redfern (contact information available on request).

    It appears that John remarried only two months after his first wife's death.

    John was executor of his father's will.

    Tiverton Deed Book 1 has a deed dated 27 Jan 1754, naming John Manchester of Tiverton and his son Isaac of Tiverton. Does this pertain to this particular John Manchester? See elsewhere on this family tree, John Manchester born c1688.

    I have not found a birth record for this particular William. He is a son of William, according to his will. This needs more research.

    William's will mentions his father William, wife Patience, and children Gideon, Joseph (under 21), and Ann (under 18). The wording suggests that that Patience may have been his second wife, but this is not certain.

    The name of Patience Allen as grandmother of Lucy Almy came from John Redfern, professional genealogist (contact information available on request).

    His name is sometimes spelled Fobes in the vital records.

    The will of Forbes Little, of Little Compton, gentleman, is dated 29 Jan 1793, proved 13 May 1801 at Little Compton. Tthe will mentions his grandfather William Forbes; two sons, Forbes and Joseph dec'd; and four daughters: Lucy (w/o Capt George Simmons), Sarah (w/o Gideon Almy, Ruth (widow of Jonathan Head dec'd), and Betsey (w/o William Hunt); also several grandchildren are mentioned.
